  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Android Baked In

I wish they would offer that functionality as a head unit upgrade that those of us who are already loyal Genesis owners could purchase for the cars we already have. I don't really want to spring $40K on a new car, but I might be willing to spring a couple K on a better DIS.

So, here we go.... Hacker city. Especially any .gov who wants to play god and off someone. Like they likely did with reporter Hastings who was working with Snowden. They took his C250 and and overran the following systems: steering, braking, engine management, fuel system safety cut off, anti theft, air bags and seat belt tensioners. They used this control to murder him. The car was accelerated to full throttle in LA boulevard, and ran him into a tree at over 100 mph. Shut down all the safety systems, and the car burst into 1400 degree flames with the DI high pressure fuel systems running from the tank.

Two 22 year old kids hacked a Prius, and took a Forbes magazine senior editor on a ride of his life. They showed him what can be done. Steered the car heading to a tree, killed the brakes, doors locks , and kept the car from being shut off. Some cool YouTube videos showing it all. Black Hat folks confirmed. They used blue tooth, Protected WIFI to take over the car.

As they said in the link above, Hyundai will have the cars "controls" and control systems, run by this thing. AND allow remote access.

Unless they offer a X Prize like reward to anyone able to hack the car, and no one is able, who in their right mind would buy this?

I would! I would root and rom that bish in a day and improve its security anyway!

But if the NSA wants my controls, they're gonna get them no matter what.

Yep, gives it literally makes the term FIREWALL come to life.

Based on my personal experience and reading others' experiences here, I can honestly say Hyundai will never get this to work correctly. No way, no how.

Son, I admire the thought, and based on my employment in a previous occupation, I can say with absolute certainty that at this very moment, our government is indeed doing things we think only "other" governments do.

BUT, this isn't one of them.

Much of what you suggest is in fact, possible, but the brakes and steering in a C250 are not "hackable". You might defeat the ABS, but there is nothing that could control the steering remotely.

Watch this and weep, son.

And the 2013 Mercedes Hastings was driving Had all the trimmings for controlled steering, and everything I listed above. My CPNlive network got all "no comments" from Mercedes "systems ensign era for media" on multiple occasions. The unofficial source said they were told to shut their traps, do not investigate the crash, would not get the car, and a promise that DOT, FTC, NSTA would never investigate that platform. Just the way it is.

This is a real issue. Anyone who understands IT and drive/fly by wire systems know the vulnerability at this time.

Very nice. I'm intimately involved in IT on a daily basis. Much of what my company does is web and wireless based (automation, security, CCTV, etc.) and my clients include banks, biotech, military, etc.

I agree with most of what you say, but again, a C250 does not have any system that can "override" the steering remotely, not even with Neo or Morpheus doing the hacking.

Sorry.

have done embedded for yrs (but not on cars) ... if brakes are individually controlled and can be computer triggered, a "forced direction" could be achieved without cranking the steering mechanism. C250 has electric (assist) steering - not sure if it's hackable or not...

time for some light weekend reading.
