  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

Had some issues with my carplay update (2015 / 3.8 / signature) and was wondering if anyone has seen this before. It's a pretty straightforward upgrade so not sure what went wrong.

I downloaded the update from Myhyundai and the app loaded it on a USB stick. Plugged into my system, ran the update and about 30-40 minutes later it completed with no errors.

Carplay and everything seems fine but the built in Navi now says the maps on my SD card no longer compatible with my version of Navi.

I noticed the USB stick has an update folder as well as a data folder with an NA (North America) folder which I assume is for map data. The update definitely said it was updating maps (step 1 of 7).

I backed up the SD card before I did the upgrade just in case but was wondering if this issue has been seen before?

Thanks!

Mike

You mentioned a USB stick in your post. Do you actually mean the SD Card?
The G2 has to be updated via the original SD Map card, not a USB stick.

download the update to your original SD card and you'll be fine. you don't have to run the update process in the car a second time.

i did the same thing with a different SD card and had to download the update to the stock SD card to get rid of the error message about the maps.

I got it working but here's what happened in case anyone has a similar issue.

1) Downloadsd my software (file name was my vin so looked good)
2) Backed up SD card then applied update to SD
3) inserted SD into my navi - said I was not authorized to use the maps - navi disabled
4) restored sd card from backup - back to normal
5) since the update mentions usb and sd at different points i figured ok maybe it wants a usb stick.
6) prepped usb, ran update
7) no errors during install, CarPlay works, navi says "sd map card incompatible with this software version.
8) I then copied the updated maps from the usb stick to the sd card and it now all works.

Not sure why I got the error in step 3 - I used the same installer each time. It allows the usb stick to do the upgrade on the system but didn't modify the sd.

Whew - hopes this helps someone else. Thanks for all the replies!
