  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, first I have to say that I love the Genesis Sedan! After driving BMWs for years, 7 total, I could no longer stand how finicky they have become with their uncoordinated service intervals. One should not be on a first name basis with with the service writer any dealership.

So my question is has anyone found a way around the Smart Cruise Control on the 2010 V8 Genesis. That is the most annoying thing on this car. The thing will slow down for Jersey barriers, dips in the road, even trucks in the outside lane! And yes, I have it set at the closest distance. On the other hand, I am getting good at driving with my hand on the cancel button

I love the cruise, just hate the smart part.

Hate to advise this based on the BMW comment, but it sounds like your Smart sensor needs adjustment. The behavior you describe is not normal.
Probably aimed too far right.
Let us know what they say.

I agree... if it's reacting to trucks in the outside lane, something's wrong. For me, SCC is one of the best features on this car, hands down.

SCC is going to take getting used to. I love using cruise control but the SCC is too cautious. There are places along the highway where I wouldn't necessarily slow down but with the "smart" cruise making all the decisions I don't have a choice. I wish there was a way to have both the old fashioned cruise and the smart cruise.

The question is when it breaks in a couple years who is going to pay the $6900 to replace the sensor in the front?

When does it slow down when you wouldn't? I've found it's really consistent in when it slows down - when you're too close to a car. It doesn't (or hasn't for me anyway) slowed down around curves or down hills (unless I'm going faster than it was set for)... What have you experienced differently?

My 2011 was produced in Sept. 2010. My SCC senses Jersey barriers, and other obstacles, but only on curvy roads, and mostly on tighter curves where cautionary yellow speed signs are posted.
As best I can tell, there is no way to disconnect the radar feature of the cruise control. I do know that if the sensors are covered with ice/snow the cruise control will not engage at all, so covering the sensors is no answer.

You should have bought wrap insurance for your warranty. It covers everything.

Hey Seattle, what wrap plan did you purchase.

I just checked the Hyundai Vehicle Protection Plan and even the Platinum coverage does not include 'near object avoidance systems'....that's the closest description I can find in the included/excluded portions of the brochure. Maybe the SCC sensor is called something else in the warranty package??

Here's the exact wording from the Platinum exclusions list "near object avoidance systems and all laser radar cruise control components". I would say that pretty explicitly excludes the SCC, no?

I called my dealer who then checked with Hyundai...the SCC is excluded from the Platinum package (the top package).

LOL. I did the exact same during lunch, and they got back to me about an hour ago and told me it was covered by my HPP. Sigh. This. This very thing is why Hyundai needs to work on training. I was SOLD the warranty under the direct statement that it covered the car bumper to bumper for everything except 'normal wear items' like tires and pads. :) Glad I have an audio recording of my agreement, though, so I'll be likely to have it covered. Sigh.

wow, i'm glad you got an audio recording, but i'm not sure if hyundai would honor that.

does this platinum thing cover the audio system/nav/bluetooth?
