  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

In the market for a Genesis. Besides the engines, is there any difference in these 2 cars?

Thanks!

Not sure what model year you are talking about, since the 4.6 was only from 2009-2011 (unless there were a few sold in during the very early part of 2012 model year). After that it was the 5.0 or R-Spec (with 5.0).

But to answer your question, there were generally very few differences:
  • V8 had wood grain plastic and leather combo steering wheel, while 3.8 had all leather
  • V8 had illuminated door sills (but can easily be added to a 3.8)
  • V8 had some chrome side molding (can also be added)
  • Maybe a few other minor differences

2012 was a weird model year. It looks like they initially had some 4.6L fuel injected Sedans (same as 2009-2011), and then switched over to 5.0 GDI (Gasoline Direct Injection) sometime during the model year. The 2012 5.0 was available in regular and R-Spec trim for awhile. Starting in 2013 the only V8 was the R-Spec with 5.0.

My 2012 4.6 was built in either June or July of 2012, I can't remember.

From what I can tell by looking at Edmunds, there were 3 different V8's sold in 2012:
  • 4.6L V8 Sedan
  • 5.0L V8 Sedan
  • 5.0L V8 R-Spec
http://www.edmunds.com/hyundai/genesis/2012/ (look at drop down list box). But it really doesn't matter much if just trying to figure out the difference between 3.8L with Tech Package and V8 (Tech Package Standard).
