  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any difference between G80 5.0 Ultimate shock absorbers and struts v. G80 Sport?

Hi, everyone. We have a 2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate. The engine is a treat, but I don’t find the chassis tuning as swell as I’m sure Albert Biermann would have preferred, In particular, I’m not happy with the shock valving, especially at the rear. In the front struts, the compression valving is pretty good in comfort mode but the rebound is just ok, and not super well controlled. At the rear, the shock valving is way too soft, especially on rebound, where motion is poorly controlled and flabby seeming.

Using sport mode tidies up things pretty well. I’d just leave it in sport, but the throttle and transmission settings are also affected. I like holding gears on twisty roads but not commuting to work on the highway.

Does anyone know if the valving on the 3.5t Sport trim shocks is any different from the 5.0 cars? I wondered if they might be a bit stiffer. The electronic shocks on our car aren’t leaking and don’t seem due for replacement, but I would consider swapping if the Sports were better performing for my needs.

Failing that, the Mando control unit may just be the answer, since it should allow stiffening things up without everything else that goes with sport mode. Ideally, I’d like to stiffen the rears more than the fronts and the Mando box allows individual axle settings. I wish there were more feedback or reviews on the product.
