  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Any interest in a write-up on hardwiring a radar detector?

I have the Passport Max, and with every vehicle I drive I run a fuseable link to a switched power source to eliminate having a wire dangling.

If anyone has any interest, I'll take some pics this morning and post which wires I tapped into. Should be super easy.

Yes, I would. Been using an Escort Passport in my Murano for several years, would like to transfer to the Genesis.

Just as important, how are you mounting? My Murano setup used a mirror stalk mount (brand name escapes me just now) and a short telephone type connector to the rear of the mirror. Some states (CA) don't allow window mounts, wondering if there is a specific mount for the Genesis.

I'll take pictures of everything this morning. Looks like there's screws for the sunglasses holder; should be a switched 12v in there. I'm using the round suction cup thing that came with the MAX.

If I had an assistant this would go much faster...:)

The Genesis parking assist will light up my detector in the Murano when close, and I assume the same would happen if mounted in the Genesis. That's not a big deal, but wondering if any other function in the Genesis will also turn on a radar detector - lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, blind spot monitor?

I think this would be awesome!

Standby for a quick write up. It won't be super comprehensive, but should be enough for someone looking to do it. It was pretty easy..

Here's the 2 day old ultra v6 in "red" (more like wine / purple). Haven't washed it today, please forgive. Hell I haven't washed it yet...:

Here's the before and after. Before, dangling annoying cord:

and after:

Only 143 miles! (This picture is for my own future nostalgia)...:)

Here's the connector for many recent radar detectors; it's the standard old school phone cord two wire RJ-11 type connector. Not pictured - I had a spare gray old phone cable, about 6 feet in length:

On my Lexus cars I could remove the screws in the sunglasses holder and just drop this down. While I'm sure with enough force I could have removed it, I just got nervous with a 2 day old leased car so I decided not to go this route:

So I measured enough length and started running the straight phone line across the roof line. Super easy to tuck inside the headliner:

The top pillar cover pops off at the top very easily; I ran the cable on the inside and pulled back the molding.

These should be self-explanatory. With the fuse cover removed:

Took a minute to snake this through, but it was pretty easy as you can clearly see daylight while looking up into the fuse box:

Beside the phone cord, I bought this late last night. It's actually a much heavier gauge than is required, but since I fuse EVERYTHING I used this. Not pictured is the spare 10 amp fuse I had.

Here's the power lead fused:

I used two "butt" connectors, available just about anywhere.

Here's where I tapped into the fuse box. The 20 amp 115W "cigarette lighter" fuse - the reason for this is I want the detector to ONLY be powered when the car is on. This way it won't run my battery down.
Also you'll see where I grounded the other wire; there's a 10mm bolt at the top and I used a circular spade-type connector to attach it. Easy-breezy. See pic.

So if anyone has any questions let me know. Had my kids not been bugging me I could do the 2nd one in about 1/2 hour going slowly.

No more dangling wires! :)

Not to thread jack but there is a much simpler way to do this...

Using a rearview mirror power cord

That looks like you have to tap into the wires. Not much room to put an inline fuse either. Mine can be completely removed for the lease turn in in about 2 minutes as well...however for a quick and easy yours might be better.

Ive done it this way since my 2008 G37, never had any problems :)

Mirror Tap with Inline Fuse

Wow! $24.99 for what must be $2 worth of parts. I like Blendmount's stuff, have one of their detector mirror mounts in the Murano, but that's a bit "spendy".

Anyone skilled enough to do the installation should also have the skills to make one from RS parts. I used an old telephone cable and pins/heat shrink I had laying around for the Murano install.

It's not so much the skill as the time. I had mine installed in less time than it takes for my soldering iron to heat up. I used the invisicord "micro" product which is essentially the same thing and I found it to be worth every penny.

For OP: I have the same color. Thanks for the write up.

Although I don't hard wire the detector, I mount my detector in the upper left corner of my windshield using a windshield mount. And, I stuff the wiring under the door molding trim and between the corner pillar covering pieces using a plastic trim tool without having to remove any of these. This has worked fine for me in several cars over the years.

Looks like all the pictures have been deleted. Can anyone provide me with some sort of pictures and DIY? Thank you

It might be the hosting website for the pictures is down. Just hang on a little while and it might come back up.
