If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Am strongly considering 2011 4.6, but seat is stretched. I've read some threads here about this issue, and I'm hoping that I missed it, but I've not seen a response saying that the dealer fixed the problem and that the same issue had not returned. Some folks had the dealer ignore their claims, others had the seat leather replaced and a few had foam replaced as well. I've gotta say that the other car I'm considering is a 2007 Lexus LS460, and out of the maybe 100 that I've looked at on line, not a single one had a seat that looked like so many of the Genesis seats that I see.

It may be a deal killer to me if I've no real hope of having it permanetly fixed.

Has anyone had a permanent fix?!

Some people had their seats removed and additional padding put into the seat (and then seating surface was shrunk with heat gun) and that has seemed to help with the problem.

The rest of us just don't worry about it.

yeah, I don't worry about it. No one can see it while I'm driving.

Yeah, well it looks like crap. No excuse. Seems to be more than cosmetic too as some posts have linked the stretching to poor padding and then decreased support/comfort.

Doesn't this make many wonder what other corners were cut?

Only a few - well documented here:
-OEM tires - changed since earlier models
-Nav and audio - poor vendor quality with Lexicon/Harmon Kardon. No excuse
-Early suspension design and components - redesigned on later models
-Some (not all) early 5.0 engines have been oil burners - since redesigned and warrantied cars had replacement engines
-ECM and transmission tuning has been less than stellar
-Some failed parking sensors and SCC modules replaced under warranty.
-Steering wheel telescoping feature is poorly designed.

I'm sure others can think of more things I have missed here (plus the seats of course). Quality overall I think is slightly above average.

The forgot the brake failure issue, especially on models built before June 1, 2010.

Any of the listed issues fixed for the 2011 4.6 I'm considering?
What's the suspension problem?

The seat issue really bugs me as it seems to be so widespread with no real fix. I would say that the vast majority of the ones that I've looked at in person and on-line have crappy stretched seats. I can't believe that people aren't making a bigger stink and that a would-be luxury car maker wouldn't be embarassed of this and fix it ASAP.

Is this issue worse for heavier people I wonder?? My seat looks ok, with normal minimal wear IMO and is over 5 years old.....I don't have as much seat time as some people though - 39,000 miles. Nothing I would complain to the dealer about at this time.

If you want a V8, the 2011 is probably the most reliable of all Genesis models. Early 2009 models had some suspension issues that were improved for 2010 models, and improved again in 2012. Just do a test drive and if you are OK with the 2011 suspension and it is not too stiff for you, don't worry about it. It was just a "comfort/firmness" issue and not a safety issue.

Maybe it is because my seats are black, but the stretching doesn't bother me that much, or maybe mine are not as stretched as others.

Since Hyundai doesn't get embarrassed when a lot of people suffered complete brake failure, or when the 2012 5.0 engine used a quart of oil every 1000 miles, why should they worry about a little bit of seat stretching?

Ha! Good point. In the scheme of things this is not as bad as what you've listed. However, it seems that there was a recall to fix the brakes, not sure how successfully that the oil burning issue was addressed. Still it seems like there is no clear fix for the seats. The one that I'm considering is tan interior and it really shows.

I looked at a different one 2011 last week at a Hyundai dealer and their response to my criticism of the seat was that they would take a picture and send it to Hynduai and they would rule on weather it was a warrantly item or not.

So, I don't understand the poster who wrote something about the seat being warrantied for only 1 yr. I figured that it was part of the 5/60, whcih if I buy the car I'm considering should cover the seat repair.

Mark, there you go again. Not every 5.0 burns oil, and the way I know that is I own one that uses 1/2 quart every 7,500 miles.

When I think of you now, here's what goes through my mind: "if this guy has said it once, he's said it 300 times, but hasn't ever owned a 5.0 himself. But every single time he writes a post, Google finds it, and the value of my perfectly good 5.0 (no oil burning issue) drops more quickly than if Mark had simply let people who actually have the problem with their 5.0s burning oil talk about it and not parrot, parrot, parrot the problem over and over again.

It's about time this was said. Mark888 reminds me of an Auntie Sadie with the ongoing bitching. Oh, my bunions hurt. Oh, I'm constipated. Oy, mine head hoits!"

My local dealer had an upholstery shop fix my seat no questions asked as opposed to replacing it because the SM said a new seat bottom would do the same thing. 6+ months later it looks fine. My guess is you could get that done by any competent shop if the dealer balks. Other than a rare hiccup by the adaptive cruise, my 2013 has been problem free.
