  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have leased my G70 and am wondering is there any reason to have dealer service? Also, when does everybody think we should do the 1st oil change? Last but certainly not least, the manual recommends Quaker state oil, a blast from the past for me as this is what we used when I was hot rodding cars in the 70s and 80s, However, I am sure today it should be synthetic.

Are you in the US? If so, it would be dumb not to have the dealer do the service since you paid for it in the price of the car. Take advantage of the concierge service. If you are in Uganda or Australia there may be a different system.

First change is by the manual.

They recommend Quaker State because they have a marketing deal. Just be sure to use the oil that meets the specs in the manual, most likely it will be a synthetic.

OP - if you are in Canada you get 'free' service for 5 years - of course this was rolled into the purchase price. just go in when you are notified. it's based on time or mileage, whichever comes first.

if you want to do additional service that is on your own dime. since you are leasing/renting i doubt that's the case.

No reason not to take advantage of it. My wife took her 2019 Sorento in for a 24k km service today and walked out with a $390 bill.
That's $390 I won't have to pay for a brake service, oil change, cabin air filter change, and etc.

Australia has pretty much the same deal when it comes to complimentary maintenance and concierge service.

There's been a lot of brouhaha-ing over the pricing of the G70 down under, but while it is priced a good bit more than the Stinger, it's right in line w/ the Lexus IS.

But the sticking point may be the non-negotiable price as there are discounts to be had on the Japanese, much less the Germans.

Riley, 1st oil change can be whenever you want, IF you don't mind paying for it. Manual recommends changing every 6k miles for gentle, freeway/highway driving on perfectly flat and clean roads. Every 3k miles for if you ever go up/down hills, sit in traffic, have dust on/around the road, actually drive it for fun (ie floor it once in a while), etc.

Engines I've rebuilt in the past have had several oil changes. I would start it up, after fully warmed up I'd change the oil and filter. Then drive it around aggressively for 20 miles or so, then change the oil again after 1000 miles.

That said, I changed my G70's oil for the first time at 1,300 miles. Looked like it needed it, too. Keep in mind that your engine will have the worst contamination and blow-by during break-in, so the sooner you change it the better, IMO. Even so, you'll still have that awesome powertrain warranty wether you change it at 1k or 6k.

Really the title of this thread should be "Any reason to NOT have dealer service?"

1. You already paid for it
2. Your car is leased, so who gives a crap what kind of oil they put in as long as it is factory spec and doesn't void the warranty?
