  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm having hard time finding any in or out of state quotes from dealers for extended warranty for 2015 Genesis Ultimate package (10/100/0) below $1800. I saw some threads people getting those for ~$1300 or even below. But everything I got so far was above $1800.
Any ideas what dealer price for those is so I can negotiate properly (like helpling having invoice price when negotiating for new car price).

Thanks,G

You can also shop out of state and just pay for the warranty. Jim Ellis hyundai is really good at giving great deals on extended warranties. Check them out

I bought a 10/100K/0 warranty from Jerry's Hyundai Weatherford, Texas in December on a base 3.8 AWD for $1319.

PLEASE make sure it is a Truel Hyundai warranty and not some shyster insurance company.
From my experience not all Hyundai dealers play above board :=(

What magic words am I supposed to say when shopping? "Official Hyundai warranty"?

Ask them if it is the Official Hyundai Platinum Extended Warranty honored at all Hyundai dealers. I think that someone posted in another thread that Jim Ellis Hyundai sells both Hyundai and 3rd party extended warranties on the phone, but they will tell you which one is being quoted if you ask them.

I would not count on getting a quote from Jim Ellis Hyundai and then having your dealer match it. They probably will not do it.

When they first tried to sell me on it (3.8 AWD Ultimate), she quoted about $2500, then went all the way down to "their cost" of $1595 is what she told me.

On a 2013, the dealer cost was $1050. This may shock you, but some people who work at car dealerships don't always tell the truth. They wouldn't even bother to sell it at cost. Just quit bitching and call Jim Ellis Hyundai in Atlanta and get it over with.

I bought mine on 5/31/15 for $1150. It's a genuine HPP 10year/100,000 miles/0 Deductible VSC.

This is for a new 2015 5.0 Ultimate. I shopped several dealers across the country. This was the best deal available at that time. Have their prices increased since I bought mine? Don't know but the sales guy I dealt with was very professional and accommodating so I'm guessing that $1150 or something very close is still within reach.

PM me if you are interested in details.

I'm in general very confused about how finance people selling this product. It takes them at most 1 hour to complete paperwork and yet they seemed to be commanding margins in several hundred dollars are least before considering selling it. Even if profit will be $50 on top of invoice price, it still make them $50 an hour engagement with no client acquisition costs, support costs etc. I end up purchasing this for $1300 from dealer in Texas after several people declined even to consider lowering price from original quotes $1800+. They knew they will never hear from me again and yet this several hundred dollar instance profit did not seemed to be interesting to them. Are they buying at different prices from Hyundai or this economics does not make any sense to me.

They can only sell as many as cars that are sold, so not sure about your $50 per hour average. Also, in the world of sales, the price is not related to cost, but to what people are willing to pay.

So you are saying they are limited by number of policies they can sell and hence not very motivated to lower the price because they feel they can sell it at better premium to somebody else? This would make sense.
Otherwise it does not make sense to refuse to sell unless making several hundred plus dollars on each insurance and not willing to negotiate. They investment into the sale is just time and even that resource they have in abundance usually during non-peak hours.

They probably feel like if they lower the price too much, that word will get around they will make less money in the long run. I am not sure if that is correct, but that is what they think.

There are always those people who will pay list price (or above), even for cars. Just one of those can make up for a lot of sales with low margins.

The real profit at dealers is not made selling new cars - it is made in the F&A office selling these high margin add-ons and in the service department. If they sell you a finance deal and add a tenth of a precent of a point they make money in seconds. Not sure of the shock that they command these prices to the unarmed buyer - its been going on since the Model T.
