Getting familiar with the group...
My 2012 Genesis 3.8L w/Tech Package has developed the usual cracks in the dash around the airbag breakaway as well as a couple above the gauge cluster. I noticed on Amazon that you can buy rolls of thin self-adhesive leather or imitation leather intended to repair couches and such. There's a dark grey color available that looks pretty close to the color of my dash.
Has anybody tried using such a material to cover over the cracked dash? I'm thinking to cut it so it stops short of the indentation below the windshield where the defroster vents are, and tuck the front edge of the material into the gap between the trim and the front edge of the upper dash. If the material is thin enough I think the center speaker and the side vents could be removed and then reinstalled on top of the new layer so there is no visible edge around those areas. After installation I would cut through the material around the airbag breakaway so it would deploy properly. Has anybody tried this, or have any thoughts about whether it might work? The car has aged pretty well except for those unsightly cracks. It only has 88K miles so I'd like to keep it looking nice since it should be good for quite a few more years.
