  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I always found it annoying you can't listen to the radio with the engine stopped but was surprised to have a dead battery after leaving the car in a mall lot for 30 minutes. H 800 service sent someone in an old van for a battery boost. He could not find any other palce to boost the battery except in the trunk. The battery looks small for a V8 TECH and performs small in my experience.

well I haven't had a problems, and CC amps are high. Here in MN it takes a good battery to start a car at -10 , the Genesis hasn't had a problem.

There actually is a "jump point" up under the hood, but the battery is in back for weight distribution.

Just about everyone who has looked at the battery says it is huge, with some discussions about possible excess weight. You might want to compare your battery with someone else's battery.

I am not sure I understand what you said about running the stereo when the car is off. When you left the car in the lot for 30 minutes, was the stereo or some other accessory on?

The Lexicon stereo in the Tech version uses a huge amount of power so I think it is unrealistic to expect to run it for 30 minutes in accessory mode.

Check the Owners Manual for accessing the jump terminals under the hood.

Yeah, that audio system is, literally, a home theater inside your car. It eats up a HUGE amount of power but you get a HUGE amount of sound in return. One of the best, if not THE best, sounding audio system in a car I've ever heard. :)

Ultra,

Just like Wally said, under the hood, on the passenger side, (under a snap on cover), there is a Jump Point, just for jump starting. (As my brother-in-law always says, "When all else fails, read the owners manual" <grin>)

I just drove to the mall and parked and did not expect a dead battery when I returned. When I called H I was told that whoever they send out is an expert on H's but naturally the dude had never seen a Gen and couldn't find a place to jump start under the hood.

We need someone to "take one for the team". Someone to try watching a 90 minute DVD in ACC and see if the car starts afterward. If nobody volunteers, you'll have to wait for the baseball season when I'm listening to a game on XM. I got 3 hours easily on my Passat and expect the same from the Gen.

I'm not a Genesis owner, although I've enjoyed following the enthusiasm on this forum.

I own a VW Phaeton, a car with many systems and actually 2 batteries, one for the systems and one for starting the car. Even with that configuration, you'll find that it's not recommended to run the radio or other items on ACC power for more than 5 minutes.

A drained battery usually will impact other systems in the car as well, so you could start seeing strange behaviour. I would imagine that you guys will find the same thing. Maintaining the battery is something you have to think about in cars like these.

Anyway, wanted to give my 2 cents...

Mike

The dealer could not find anything wrong. The sevice advisor could not find ths spot to jump start the car under the hood but a tech showed me where it is. They should label it as it looks like an unlabelled fuse box.

Did you car warn you that the battery was low? My daughter was listening to music in accessory mode and when I got back (aprox 30 minutes later) the car was running. I asked her why she started the car, she said it told her to, that it warned her that the battery was low. I wish I was there to hear it and I could explain it better.

She probably just got the "nag" that warns about playing the music without the car running. It wasn't a real warning per se, just a caution that we all get... a "nanny nag".

Yesterday I watched a 106 minute movie in the car while in accessory mode. Afterwards it started right up as usual. But 3 minutes later the display for the driver info sys went blank(navi screen) and so did the audio. It returned 2 seconds later. Waiting to see if it occurs again.

I agree with what's said above. Compartively, it's a huge battery! Although, I have 2 in my diesel, it's definitely bigger than one of those batteries.

This car is so electronically complicated, there will be a large draw on the battery when the car's not on.

Ha! Only took a year for someone to step up to the plate. Thanks!

And FWIW, I listened to baseball games on XM all last Summer in ACC. Often for 2+ hours, and the car never failed to start afterward.

Is it possible to turn off the "nag" warning? I find it really irritating... I'm a new 4.6 w/tech owner... 600 miles so far and love the car!:)

I have had the radio turned on for well over an hour while cleaning my car. Is this "warning" a tech package thing? I have never seen it.

Yup, cars with the integrated stereo+Nav system. The display is like a laptop computer's LCD display with backlighting and everything. It gobbles up a lot of power. The non-Tech cars use a much simpler display that doesn't consume as much energy.

The Tech display, when you're driving, is displaying a detailed picture all the time of one of the following, based on which of 6 buttons surrounding the main controller knob you've most recently pushed (and how many times you've pushed some of them - some have 2 functions):
* nav map display or
* nav input/output menus, address lists, etc, route planning, or
* fancy displays to work the "radio" functions (AM, FM, or XM) or
* DVD controls & movie, or a banner about video being disabled while driving (when the shift lever isn't in Park you get this warning) or
* CD text info or
* USB memory stick directory & file name text listings, or
* a profile graphic of a Genesis with no doors... showing which air vents are active, the temperatures, fan speeds, etc.
* text with "options" or "information" on the vehicle, the GPS readout, etc.

It's always busy showing some detailed graphics or text listings. And always eating electricity... especially the backlight. The whole Lexicon system gobbles up a lot of electricity too - it's a full multi-processor computer system scattered between several physical boxes. Imagine having a network of several small computers working together (or trying to at least) ... that's the Tech package.
