If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got a recall notice from Hyundai Motor America in the mail today (see attached).

According to the notice Hyundai has decided that a defect with the stop lamp switch exists in certain model year 2005-2008 Hyundai vehicles.

This one definitely ties into the "ESC malfunction light/can't shift out of Park problem" that I and several others on this forum have noted. I've had 8 occurances of the problem since I bought my Genny in May.

They say that the stop lamp switch may malfunction causing:
- brake lights to NOT illuminate when the brakes are depressed
- brake lights to remain illuminated when the brakes released
- malfunction of the brake-transmission interlock (can't shift out of Park)
- ESC malfunction light to illuminate
- cruise control NOT to disengage when the brakes are depressed

This past week, my 4.6 '09 didn't come out of park. it got locked. this happened twice.

I had to switch the engine off, and then turn it back on and the transmission would shift down out of Park.

Would this qualify? I was actually somewhat worried.

I've also had this happen to me two or three times, but not lately.

So you guys are turning your car on and then you can not get it out of park? So you have to turn the car off, then turn it back on?

Ironic that I am reading about this problem tonight. It just happened to me today. Started the Genesis, and the shifter was stuck in park, ESC light was lit up on the dash. I powered down and restarted. I'll be contacting the dealership tomorrow.

I've had this occur 8 times, as frequently as 8 days and as infrequently as 43. It always occurs at start-up and it could be come at any time of day (I've had it on the 1st start of the day and up to the 4th start of the day).

It's always an ESC malfunction light accompanied by a locked transmission (won't come out of Park). I also always get an OBDII code of U0101 (Lost Communication with TCM [traction control module]) which clears itself as soon as I do a shut-down/re-start.

I'm hoping that this Stop Lamp Switch recall will solve it.

correct ashdump. would the weather have to do anything with it? this happened in ~35 degree weather.

guess if it happens again soon i'll be calling the dealership. this is such a hassle especially when i just cleaned and vacuumed! argh

deejank,

Is your Genesis your only Hyundai?

The reason I ask is because the letter states it exists in certain model year 2005 through 2008 Hyundai vehicles, and our Genesis' are 2009's and 2010's.

I'm visiting my selling Hyundai dealer tomorrow morning for an oil change, tire rotation and to see if they can get any information from the computer on the seat problem that happens only in cold weather. Will show the Genesis technician the printout of the notice.

My Genesis Technician told me that that recall has been out for a while.

Also said that next time it happens to me, have someone check to see if the stop lights light up. (I.E., Are the stop lights on, because your foot is on the brake pedal).
Next time it happens, I will do just that.
