  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just brought home a 2023 GV70 that will not recognize voice commands after pressing wheel button. If I make or receive a call I can talk through the system as normal to my paired phone. Still, I do not have access to hands free commands. I have done the radio reset/reboot.

I too have problems with my 2022 GV70. Voice recognition doesn't work. Dealership is useless and voice recognition problems may be due to the map update. Process was required, awkward, and time consuming.

I have a GV80 and it has the best voice recognition of any car I have owned. (Well tied with my wifes BMW) The other ones I have had, Audi and Acura, were worthless. I would amuse my friends showing them how bad it was.
But I am getting your problem is that it does not hear you at all, right?
Remember, a real short press for the Genesis system and a long press for the Apple or Android system.

Once you get it fixed, you will love it. While your talking, your words show up on the screen.

I am not following.

Several things come into play here. If the error is repeatable then calling the service department is you best course of action as they can quickly reproduce your issue and work towards a solution. If the problem does not always happen, we might be able to help a bit...

Does your GV70 hear you?
When you press the voice recognition button on the steering wheel and speak, does the dashboard screen display the words you are speaking? For example, when I press the button and say "Call John Smith on mobile" the right 1/3 for the dashboard screen will display a AI type circular icon and the words "Call John Smith on mobile" will display. If what you say is being displayed, then the problem is likely not a hardware issue. If the GV70 isn't displaying your spoken words, then there might be a problem with the mic and calling the service department is your best next steps.

Your GV70 hears you, but doesn't follow commands
You've determined you GV70 hears you, but the system doesn't follow your commands. Does the system follow any viable command you provide? Check this page for commands confirmed to work with the GV70. If the infotainment system doesn't take action on any of the commands you provide, your best step is to contact the service center. Perhaps take video of the system reacting and not following through on commands. If the infotainment system follows commands, but does not allow you to make phone calls, then we could have an easy but annoying solution.

GV70 won't make outgoing phone calls.
I have not tested with Android Auto, but with Apple CarPlay the Genesis system is a little annoying IF you are using CarPlay. I believe with previous versions of CarPlay, if you pressed the steering wheel button and Stated "Call John Smith on Mobile" the Genesis system would display the words you stated on the right 1/3 part of the screen and the infotainment system would state "While using CarPlay all phone calls are handed through Siri" or something similar. At that point you needed to press and hold the button on the steering wheel for slightly longer and instead of the infotainment system Siri would be summoned. With Siri listening you can say "Call John Smith on mobile" and Siri would make the call. Unfortunately wit the latest versions of CarPlay and the Genesis maps installed, when I have my iPhone connected to the GV70 and short press the steer wheel button and say "Call John Smith on mobile" the Genesis voice will reply with something similar to "Unable to understand your command, please try again." It is an endless cycle of stating your command, the Genesis system hearing and understanding you while confirming your words on the dash screen, and then being told the system can't understand you. One longer push to bring up Siri allows Siri to make the call.

Please also note that if I am using the bluetooth connection and not a wired CarPlay, a quick push and stating "Call John Smith" will dial the number. If you system is only not operational when you are using CarPlay (or possibly AA), try to make sure you remember the Genesis infotainment system won't make outgoing calls when connected.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the lis. I have seen it before, and found it very useful. I did have service look at it. I was told they need it for a half day. It took a day and a half and claims they could not contact the tech center that helps them diagnose. I was told it was the radio itself which they would order but mentioned supply issues. I use AA and nothing works with that either. It will not hear my comands. It will suggest lowering background noise by closing window (that is not open) and try again. If I make calls or receive them through the touch screen hands free works normal.

Yes!! Got the 2023 GV70 in April and have had the Voice Recognition in for repair 3 times! Genesis Service never admitted they have an ongoing problem with the Voice Recognition button which controls everything. It's almost Sept and still not fixed. Honestly Genesis White Plains is unresponsive and not forthcoming. Terrible customer service.

We are having the same voice probl m and map problem since installing the update. Calls to Genesis are not helping. They keep saying they will talk to an engineer and get back to us, but weeks go by with no response. There are obviously bugs in the latest update which I am guesssing Genesis will resolve and then issue another update without the bug issues (map and voice). It took 4 hours to install this last update, but we were on the road that long so it was OK. 4 hours in the driveway is not a good solution. Everything was working fine before the update. GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER GENESIS!!!!! This is our 5th Nyundai and we never had a bit of trouble before. NIOT HAPPY STARTING NOW!!!!

Believe it or not, I had same problem today. Tech at my dealer is phenomenal; has always had an answer for everything. Here is how he told me to correct problem.
1. press map and set up buttons together.--screen will go blank.
2.when screen comes on. (welcome screen) press the talk button on the steering wheel once QUICKLY.
The above procedure solved my problem! Good luck

Experiences are useful but we need to remember that there are several info systems on Genesis vehicles and even the way to reboot the system may be different. The similarities are not always obvious. For example, the GV60 and G90 share the same info system.

Your tech was telling you how to reboot the info system. Just like rebooting one's home computer, a hard reboot is often the solution and is a good first step.

This is good information. My issue was resolved by replacing the complete radio/NAV system head. The dealer too failed to fix after a reboot. I do not know if he pressed the talk button on the welcome screen after reboot though.
