  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone know if it's possible to tap into the rearview mirror power source (12v) for a radar detector?

I haven't tried to completely disconnect the rearview mirror power cable yet to take a look at it, so I figured I'd ask here first just in case anyone has or knows the answer to my question.

My previous car had ports for power visible on the outside of the rearview mirror power cable to plug the radar detector power cable in to, which had a red wire and a black wire, I'm guessing 12v and ground respectively.

I want to use a blend mount that attaches to the rearview mirror and run the tiny power cable into the rearview mirror power source as I did in my last car. That setup is just so clean and awesome, and the radar comes on when you start the car. I'll run a fuse tap and do that and buy that adapter if I have to, but I'd rather this method for the ease and simplicity. I use a Passport 9500ix btw.
