  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am basically interested in changing the exhaust. My biggest concern as you can understand is voiding out my warranty.

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the link. Has anybody been denied a warranty claim based on an aftermarket part?

I have been denied once. I hen called a bunch of people and finding had it dealt with in my favor. It wasn't a Hyundai, but rather my Honda.

My son installed an aftermarket intake for some reason on my 04 Civic about 5 years ago. In 2005, I had an issue with the MAP sensor not reading correctly and brought it in to be serviced.

The mechanic kept stating that the intake was installed and strained the MAP sensor, so it wasn't under warranty. They quoted me something like $300 to replace it. Yea right. I walked out and started making phone calls. Needless, to say, I was able to bring my car back in the next week to be fixed for free. They even gave me a free rental car for the day!

Hyundai cannot void the entire car's warranty for the installation of an exhaust system. They will obviously not warrant your new exhaust system but they can argue to not cover anything related to it. I have seen cases where warranty has been denied on oxygen sensors, catalytic converters, factory headers, and even turbos when someone removed the exhaust system.

Technically, Hyundai has to prove the modification caused the damage you are claiming is in need of warranty repair. However, they can't void your stereo's warranty since you installed an exhaust as they are unrelated. However, you could loose a portion of the powertrain warranty by removing and replacing the exhaust system.

In the end it is up to Hyundai to prove conclusively that your modification caused subsequent damage to some other part of the car.

Be prepared for a fight and the more expensive the repair the more likely they will deny repairing it.
