  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Help Please -- Anyone see 5 dots on their front bumper?

A small plea for assistance from a new Genesis owner.

I've had mine for 5 months (2400 miles) and washed it numerous times indoors,
and the car looked absolutely pristine to me when I drove my wife to a hospital appointment. Against my better judgment, I gave the car to a valet service.

This afternoon I parked the car in bright sunlight. Looking at the front bumper, I saw, for the first time, 5 tiny indentations in the bumper. They are small, about the size of the head of a very small nail, maybe 1-2mm, and centered almost perfectly on the bumper. They are about 2 inches down from the grille, and one dot is almost perfectly centered on the center of the grille. The dots are about 4.125 inches apart.

I'm trying to determine if the valet did it or they have been there all along. And, if the valet did it, what could possibly make such a marking?

Can anyone tell me if they have such markings on their bumper. They *are* very small, but normally I notice something like that.

Thanks all,

Jim

Those are from the factory, not the valet. I have two visible on my car - one a few inches on either side of the front license plate assembly.

Those are probably markings for "put screws here" when mounting narrow US style or wider Euro style license plates. Just thin punch-out areas in the bumper molding. I'll bet you don't have a front plate on your car - that's why you see more than I do. The center 3 of mine are covered/used by the mandatory front plate in SoCal.

I think Mike is absolutely right on this. Jim, I've seen mine out in the daylight since the day I bought it in Hendersonville TN. It was a very bright sunny day, Dec 26, 2009, and it had just been detailed for me. I saw those little drilling template marks. I still see them even more clearly since putting two coats of Zaino on the bumper.

I can vouch for this as well....

Gentlemen,

Thanks *so* much for your quick and helpful reply. Precisely right. I have no front license, and so I see 5 dots. Whew....

My last car (an Accord 6 that was ultimately destroyed in an accident) was 5 days old when someone at my local YMCA put a very significant dent in the driver's side door. I was philosophical about it, and actually didn't bother to fix it, figuring I'd consider repairing it at trade-in time (which never happened).

So I'm trying to keep this one pristine for a few more months. I absolutely love the look of this car! As I went to the parking lot today, a couple of people were eyeballing the car and commenting on it.

Interesting story about these "dots" with my car - when I picked my Genesis up, my car had a paint run that I marked for later repair - it was on the insert on the corner of the fender with the chrome strip. I finally took my car into the service department to get it repaired, and mentioned the indentations, stating that I hadn't seen them initially and that they seemed to have appeared after I got the car. When I went to get the car, they had accidentally repainted the entire front bumper (and not that small piece) and those "dots" were gone. I'm not sure what the body shop did, maybe it sanded them away, but they're not on my bumper anymore.

Now you've done it! You've made me jealous. I'm going to have to consider having mine done:p
