If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All- Love the Tech package- the only thing I really would like to have would be the larger touch screen. Any resources or ideas or for that matter if it's even a possibility?

Thanks for any help!

Boy that would be a hard project.... But given a lot of time and money you can do anything.
Probably would be cheaper to trade your car for the better package

I am sure it's possible, just might not be an expedient thing to do financially.

Thanks-

Maybe I'll get lucky and find someone parting one out that was wrecked on Ebay down the road : )

Buy a V8.

Do you just want a bigger screen or the entire 9.2" system?

Buy a V8.

You mean buy an Ultimate. Only Ultimates have the big screen. While you may kid, the truth is if he wants the entire system, it might be more financially viable to trade in his current car and buy an Ultimate over doing the system swap when you consider dash work, labor, warranty and parts, not to mention resale value.

I have the tech package currently with the smaller touch screen- I like the look of the 9.2 better : )

I agree. You would also have to change the center console and the wiring harness. I am pretty sure the hit on the trade in and the price diff between trims would come in still cheaper.

I cannot locate the web review right now, but the guts behind the screens are 100% different as well. Different programming, processor, operating system and screen resolution. I am sure that it would not be a good idea to try and switch one for the other given how hooked into every system of the car these are, sorry man. Ask a Hyundai tech at a dealership and I bet you will get the same answer.

Interesting! I would figure they would all be wired similar- I appreciate the heads up :)

Agreed 100%, Here you go;

Good comprehensive review in the Tom's HW Link that you sent- Thank you- However it doesn't mention anything different behind the 9.2" screen that I remember reading? Granted the guts of course are completely different but I would be really surprised if the Wire Harness and connections to the head unit itself would differ between the tech and the ultimate? The only way I suppose to know for sure would be to have one of each in hand LOL

Thanks for the reply-

Is probably possible, I'm guessing is just a screen swap nothing more. The only way is to take it apart and see. I doubt the screen is tight into the system.

Thanks for the reply-

The key is the screen resolution, the ultimate 9.2" is a wide screen HD (720p) while other models 8" are SD (800 x 480)!

I would speculate even if you manage to get it working with some clever wiring, the ratio would most likely be whacked, plus the touch screen will unlikely to work, unless you are able to hack the special Android OS, even then the Imageon Z460 graphics may not have enough oomph to run at 720p.

Having said that I would speculate that the the linux version would be somewhat easier to work on than the Windows CE versions that can be found on the 1st Gen! (as demonstrated by one other member recent post)

(Hint: the (H) In the R-Spec the boot screen logo is imbedded in the BIOS file, and sorry there will be no sharing on this one - yet! :D )
