  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

At Dealership For First Service and Oil Change

2-3 months ago when I was considering a service visit about the subwoofers I saw Genesis.com listed a dealer 20 miles south of me. I called and the sales staff said they applied for dealership but had since surrendered the option. I do not know if they applied to the state for licensing as a Genesis dealer. One less to deal with. There are two Genesis dealers within 20 miles now and seven more within 90 miles. My guess is that those other seven will winnow soon including in locations too close to others and in cities that are not centers of new luxury car sales.
Just looked at Genesis.com and four of those seven Genesis dealers have 1, 2, or 3 G70s, all 2019, no 2020 so the thinning has begun.

My local Hyundai dealer told me that it would cost them too much $ to sell the Genesis. Would have to build separate facilities and that the low sales would not off set cost . When people see this car out here they stare at it because they dont see them ever. I am the only Genesis owner in a 300 mile radius most bbn likely!

I have to take my car soon for it first official 6000k oil change. I actually changed the oil myself at 2000k miles. I will pay for synthetic if they have it, but frankly, I'm not confident that they won't use regular oil anyway. I don't even think it's a scam, it's just that they have barrel oil that the oil change guy uses all day, and his job is to slam out as many cars as possible in the shortest amount of time possible. As soon as you go off script in an operation like this, problems are likely.

As for the dealership experience in general, I just had my snow tires put on my 5 series at the BMW dealership. I checked the lug torque when I got home and found 2 passenger side wheels were over-torqued by at least 30 foot pounds. The service advisors are always pleasant, and the waiting area is well stocked and free of the unwashed masses - which is nice.

Of course it is not impossible and that is the goal. Meantime, how do you finance it? What do you take to the bank when you want to borrow lots of money to build one? That may happen once two things happen. They need an SUV and they need a limit of dealers in the area.

The SUV will be here in a few months. There are not enough sales of the current line to support a dealer. They can't have every Hyundai dealer selling the same product ever two miles. There are many legal obstacles to that right now. The stand alone dealer must have a decent exclusive area.
Yeah, I agree. There is no cost benefit right now due to low sales volume of the current lineup to support this. However, Lexus, Infiniti, and acura all did it successfully. Different time though.

Just wait until the long term reviews come out... Motor Trend just started one for the G70 and the editor made it very clear that the G70 wasnt his first choice for car of the year. Indicated that the overall owmer experience will be scrutinized. Should be interesting.

Just arrived at the Genesis (Hyundai) dealership for my first service and oil change. So far I am not impressed with the experience... Service advisor had zero customer service skills and certainly did not make a good first impression. I told him full synthetic oil change, nothing more nothing less. He didn't seem to listen so I reminded him again. We shall see what I end up with!

I make you wonder how people like that keep their jobs?

From my experience, I think they believe that lack of customer service skills is actually a job requirement, rather than a negative.

Tip: When setting up your service do it through Genesis Connected Services (USA centric) (Genesis Owners Homepage | MyGenesis) and not through the dealership itself. Before I go on I want to state that I've actually had very good experiences with this dealership, I had a starter malfunction code that was resolved and was treated well through the experience.

Anyway, about to hit the 6K mark and went to the dealership website instead of the above, there was no choice for Valet Pick-up (only drop-off / rental), so I wrote it down in the "notes" section. Choose the earliest date possible and then tried to reach someone at the dealership to make sure I could get a valet pickup and loaner... this proved to be a bit tedious.

I then remembered the above, logged-in to Genesis Services and was immediately given a sooner appointment (same dealership) and could clearly see that Valet-Pickup was an option.

The dealership experience is lacking and this will take years (if they succeed) to improve.

While I agree with your final statement that the dealership experience is lacking, I strongly disagree that going through Genesis Connected Services is any better. Here's a link to a post I wrote earlier tonight about my experience interacting with multiple Genesis Connected Services personnel on several separate occasions.

First valet service

So I didn't use the App (although perhaps the same thing) I used the website I listed in my earlier post in this thread. I cancelled my appointment through the dealer directly. Went to the connected services website and logged-in (this was this Tues/Wed and they came and picked-up my car Friday). Valet guy came and dropped off a mallorca blue advanced G70 and took mine away. From the dealer to my pickup spot is 40 miles round trip, I gave the driver a friendly reminder that I set a speed alert on the car. So there's some dealers out there that are making an effort. I live in SF Bay Area, if someone wants to know where I'm taking my car, PM me.
@broervudu Could you PM me for the service dealer? Thank you!

Misstep? If you know the history you know that they had no other choice. There were significant legal issues brought by the dealer. What you have had them do? They now need to wait it out.
I don't know the history. Please explain.

Some of the posts here seem to assume a certain level of expertise. Don't get me wrong, I truly appreciate the experts but I am not one of them, which is why I come to forums such as this one. I don't know about others but I have no real knowledge of the ins and outs of the car industry. I just buy cars using the best research and data I can find when I'm in the market.

@EdP, @Mcc and many others - Thanks for your continued informed posts. I've seen them... As I said in a previous post, another Genesis is not out of the question for me one day, so I'll be looking in here from time to time.

am concerned, though, that I’ll be unhappy with the Hyundai dealer regarding service. I know it won’t be like my experiences at Lexus and I do wonder if I had a Cadillac what I would think about their service.

It's a real concern as others have already mentioned. With any brand I've always been happier doing minor service on my own and finding a trusted independent shop for the rest.
They used dino oil that in no way meets the spec and refused to change the oil they put in when I pointed it out.

Showing my ignorance but what is "Dino oil?"

Dino(saur) oil means usual pumped from the ground petroleum. Synthetic oil is superior as it is manufactured to highest standards to function as a lubricant only and not to be refined into other products as petroleum is.

You would be best informed if you searched around the forum, as this topic was discussed IN GREAT DETAIL, again and again...and again....and again and again and again and again and again and again and again....

That said, if you really want to know, I'll leave you to read through this entire thread. It's a long read, and maybe someone could summarize it for you, but here ya go. ------> G70 US Availability?

I've setup the valet service last week through connected service as one of the members suggested. They had contacted me and said they don't have any loaner car available and I need to wait to reschedule. Waited several days and now I called they are saying the dealer will no longer do the Genesis service? They gave me different dealership number. How upsetting... :( Is there any restructuring going on US dealerships?

Hopefully we will see more and more dealers dropping Genesis in order to get rid of the underperforming ones. The dealers that offer the service expected of a luxury brand should be able to stick around and even flourish once the product line is expanded.

I hope so. They have too many dealers and too many giving poor service. They need a restructuring. They brought on a new guy to be in charge of dealers and maybe he is going to get things fixed. You may not be happy today, but this is a good thing in the long run.
