Auto Transfer of Phonebook?

Sorry if this has already been covered (I even tried using the forum's search feature but didn't find what I was looking for), but I'm finally screwing around with the bluetooth phone connection. While connecting my phone to the car was easy enough, I'm hoping I can transfer my cell phone book to the Genesis automatically (or better yet, have it just pick it up while connected), but no luck so far. Thanks in advance if someone can shorten my learning curve on this one...

Thanks for the reality check, Ric. I've been riding such a high with all the things this car can do; I suppose I was due for a dose of reality. That said, I'll bet this is an upgrade that future Genesis owners will enjoy in a year or two. In the meantime, I'd better turn my teenage son loose with the task of copying my phonebook into that nearly-empty 40 GB drive (after all, he just got his learner's permit and is champing at the bit to get behind the wheel of this car...yeah, right!).

He'll have it done in no time! Pretty sure this idea is already added over in the "what I'd like to see" thread. Before you start, think through what you want to see on caller ID vs. how you look up numbers to dial. I will be "re-entering" all mine since my wife can't find the numbers.

The caller ID function 'looks up' the name and displays it exactly as you have it in your address book. It's nice to see on the display "Jim Smith Cell". However, if you like alphabetic lookup, you need to enter "Smith, Jim Cell" in the address book, and that is how it will display.

Good point re: phonebook formatting. And now I'm about the expose additional ignorance on my part, this time in terms of the implications for voice commands. Will I be able to summon a phonebook listing by name? I know the system picks up spoken numerals really well, but I have no idea if it's capable of interpreting "Jim Smith Cell" (or "Smith, Jim Cell" for that matter).

If it can, I'd probably go with the "first name/last name", which is more natural for a spoken command. If not, "last name first" is the ticket for scrolling through the displayed list of names, I suppose.

I'm gonna have to start paying you tuition, Ric!

Spending too much time on here....haven't read that far in the DIS manual yet. Only voice I have managed is "NAV ON" and "NAV OFF", which works great. I will definitely test that function before "reloading" my book.

I've set up some numbers on the blue-tooth...the only problem I have is that my voice inflections don't change significantly enough so that the system will recognize different names. Yesterday, I offered up "Rob" (a person I was trying to call) and got "Darla" instead! I speak clearly (grew up in Chicago, live in East TN)! I've had similar events happen several times. I've had to resort to calling out the number digit by digit, to which it dialed the number, and I spoke with the person on the other end.

Truly a better system would have the car accessing the phonebook in your phone, instead of having to manually (vocally) loading it! Callers have said the system is quite clear on the other end--that's great!

Incidently, I have noticed that my fuel economy declines when sitting in the driveway for an hour or so loading up the phone diretory! (Sarcasm intended)!

Why do you have to run the engine in order to use the tech package? My understanding is that there is an accessory mode...

There is an ACC option with the ignition (pushing the start button with your foot off the brake), but if you're playing around with the DIS features in ACC mode, the system comes on periodically to warn you of the large electrical draw, which may drain your battery. I'll operate in that mode for a few minutes, but like others, if I really need to spend some time loading something, I'll turn on the ignition. Don't wanna wound the battery with <1K miles on it!

Yes...there is an accessory mode. There's one other significant problem...in East Tennessee where I live it's 90+ degrees during the day w/high humidity. While in the car, the door should be closed to avoid the outside noise. With the door closed, in 90-degree heat....I'll melt! So I close the door, run the A/C, and do the task at hand!
