There is one quote I just can't get out of my head. It is on this site under the issues thread,rough ride (rear),section. It seems to have come from Automobile Magazine. "But add a few bumps and the Genesis takes a turn for the worse. Unlike any of the other sedans,The Hyundai falls completely to pieces on twisty,bumpy back roads. Push it hard and the pavement irregularites send the Genesis heaving and wallowing down the road with the traction ontrol light flashing and the steering wheel shuddering. When you're husting with a car full of passengers,it's soft rear suspension crashes onto its bump stops over moderately rough roads." Has anyone felt a loaded car hitting the bump stops in the rear or seen the traction control light flash?

I've had my Genesis since July 26th and never felt anything close to that description. I did feel the suspension felt a little firm but realized my tires were overinflated after reading this forum. Once I let the air out, I noticed a significant improvement immediately.
Note to others: Check your air pressure. There is a strong chance they are overinflated from the dealer.

I can't say that the light has come on, but the suspension, as someone said besides me, "is nervous".

This car doesn't like bumps or rough roads, and yes, the suspension is too soft. It seems they cared more about the g-force on turns with the anti-sway bar than straight ahead difficult roads. I have a stretch I drive on where I really don't want to go past 70 mph due to only expansion joints!

Hyundai, put a fix together!

sounds as if your just trying to find a reason not to buy the car, we havent had one complaint of any sort from any customer weve sold genesis to. for every cons review theres 50 pros to this vehicle. no car is perfect and if this thing doesnt handle quite like a beemer or porsche thats cool with me. 10's of thousands better are those cars, absolutely not. And i drive one (bmw). noone is going to come out with anything that doesnt leave room for improvement, if that were the case, noone would want to buy another. you must understand that, do you think the first beemer drove like the current ones...no. atleast when you go to trade this one a cpl years from now when those particular upgrades are done you wont still owe 50 grand.

It is not possible to design a car that is "perfect" for everyone. My Audi has really nice interior but it is noisier and the ride is no better. The BMW has good handling but the dash look like crap. The Acura's dash is like a sea of buttons, etc.

Look, I have a 4.6 tech, black on black. It is absolutley stunning to look at. It's fit and finish are superb. The quality literally shreaks at you.

Having said that, there are problems with the car. If I am part of a forum, do I shut my mouth and say...the Acura has too many buttons?

I knew this was first gerneration (no pun) and would have some issues. Here is my current bitch list:

1. Suspension too nervous. This needs a fix. I don't care about value, finish...yada, yada, it needs a fix. Go take your car over a rough road and tell me the suspension is just fine. It isn't.

2. Heat and cooling. Display is off until you adjust it, then is hard to read. Would prefer they go to full screen when adjusting. Could use a better minimum flow level.

3. Bluetooth turns off when you turn off the car. My old car maintained connection, better idea.

4. Nav system should list streets AND towns or boroughs. Often too many similar names, but no other reference.

5. More padding in arm rests.

6. Transmission has lag first few seconds. Seen many comments on this, and I have it too. Annoying. However, car is fine after that, with plenty of power.

7. At idle, I'd like the car to stop eating gas like a druken sailor.

I've had my Genesis since 6/28. I have no such issues at all. It does get a tiny bit bouncy on rough/undulating pavement, but there is no unrefined kickback through the steering wheel, and I've never noticed the traction control light.

I honestly don't get the fuss over the ride quality. It's better than my GS430, and no one ever complains about Lexus. With that said, if you're looking for a magic carpet ride akin to a Town Car, the Genesis is not it. It's a luxury-sport sedan. For some to go so far as to say it's a defect that needs fixing is ridiculous IMO. I've owned several Honda/Acuras, a Cadillac, a Lexus, a BMW, a Mitsubishi, 2 VWs, and a Land Rover. The Genesis is the only vehicle that ever exceeded my expectations. Is it perfect? Nope. Sadly, there's no such thing. It is damn close though, at least for my wants/needs. I'd personally rather see Hyundai upgrade the seats before fiddling w/ the suspension.

I may be one of the only one's here that plan some suspension mods.
I am going with some eibach pro-kit springs and an upgraded rear sway bar.
I don't mind a slightly firm ride, but I prefer tight handling and "no" understeer.
My biggest complaint so far (besides understeer) is the transmission lag from idle.
I do drive aggressivly in turns.

I think this issue MAY be a matter of opinion. I also think it may be better or worse on some Genesis vehicles than others. I haven't been able to figure out, without a doubt, whether this is a problem with the suspension or not..

Anyway.. Being this is a suspension related question, I'm moving this discussion to the appropriate forum...

Anyone who buys a car based on the opinions of others (including car magz), shouldn't be buying a car at all. You read reviews and it may or may not interest you but you also read how good reviews outweigh the bad reviews (if any) - this would be your insight. You draw to your decision by test driving the vehicle yourself.

And yes, I've driven it extensively.

Wherever I go to express that opinion, regardless of context or content, the people that always are the most agitated and vociferous in response to my opinion seem to tend to be those who sell the Genesis for a living. Some admit it outright, while others intimate it in their responses.

And I am NOT a troll. I post what I consider to be the many positive attributes of the Genesis.

Unfortunately, the suspension and motor are probably the two most prominent, central components of a car, and if there is a problem with either, it pretty much sucks the joy out of the ownership experience with a particular car, no matter how good the car may be in most or all other respects.

And that is the problem with the Genesis - bad suspension articulation and behavior over all but the smoothest pavement - and it is highly unfortunate that Hyundai can't seem to resolve suspension issues given how far they've come in other respects.

They must have fixed the suspension issues before I bought my car. However, the only time it has been annoying is this 1 bridge. Somehow, due to the cross patterns on the bridge, it makes a perfect rhythm and let me tell you...it gets a little bouncy. I think I may have even pinched one off while bouncing...HA! But, that same bridge, with my family in the car, is smooth as silk. I have not hit any bump stops yet.

If this little quirk causes someone to pay $7k to $15k more for a name, go right ahead. I personally cant afford it and will laugh outloud at you when I blow you away at the green light!

Very nicely put John Martin. My wife's genesis has has abs and esc lights come on several times and then last night right after we left the dealership they came on again but this time they were accompanied with the check engine light. So they kept the car last night and are going to hook it up to the computer today so we will see what happens. And these lights weren't coming on with agressive driving, just normal highway driving.

I have to agree with JohnMartin on the ride characteristics of my new Genesis 4.6. Occasionally, some of the ride suspension feedback is too abrupt and jolts the whole front end (+me!) for just a second. Annoying for sure, but then, most of my driving is on smoother freeway.

I would also like to see a "fix" on this that is optional, at a reduced price, for those of us not satisfied. I think HMA will not just arbitrarily do the "fix" for all Genesis models sold, as we have forum members who are not complaining, any "trolls" notwithstanding.

I am looking forward to new feedback from those who have replaced the tires and/or wheels in terms of any improvement in ride.

Otherwise, last week's DRIVING trip (Tucson-->San Diego-->San Jose-->Napa-->Sacramento-->Stateline/Lake Tahoe-->Carson City-->Bishop-->Laughlin-->Phoenix-->Tucson) was a real joy with VERY comfortable and supportive seats and superior gas mileage (28 mpg--mid-grade octane)!

You mentioned you are planning to change/modify the suspension. What will happen to the sensors and other electrical connections for the existing unit? Do you think the "brain" might have any problems without any feed back? I may be all wet about this but I thought the ASD would be tied into the other systems of the car. I have installed Eibach springs on another car and they are great!

Funny how so many "experts" on here have come to the conclusion that there is a design flaw w/ the Genesis' suspension and this is not an issue of spring/damping rates and/or tires.

Still love my 3.8l Genesis and it's suspension. One quick drive in my '01 Range Rover and I realize how much more controlled, smooth and refined my Genesis is.
