  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can't find any info on what the different modes in AWD do. Also does anyone know how much economy mode helps gas mileage? Where did you find this info?

To me, about the only thing the eco does is lower the performance. That can be annoying to me because I have a heavy foot. Even so, I get about 26 mpg on the highway at about 85 MPH in standard mode. I can't stand the eco in the city and there is no difference once moving on the highway other than lower passing performance.

I don't bother with eco at all and use the sport mode in the twisties.

Generally, those modes select different transmission shift points - ECO mode will shift to a higher gear at lower RPM's to effect gas mileage. One some model cars, SPORT mode will hold the shift points as well as tighten the steering input, while some change the input from the gas pedal to give the effect of more performance with the same pedal pressure.

The Eco mode also adjusts the variable valve timing in attempt to improve economy seems to work for me. When not laying into the throttle, most the time, helps measurably for me handing out better MPG. For me, 2-3 MPg better than normal. I would suspect much more compared to sport mode. Never ran a entire tank in sport mode and have not measured difference.

I've found eco mode to be a waste, in Snow mode i'm able to avg 25-26 on hwy, about 22 in the city

The Genesis drive modes don't adjust valve timimg. Here's the high level description of the things they adjust according to Hyundai:

INTELLIGENT DRIVE MODE

Normal, Sport, Eco and Snow modes alter steering, transmission, throttle, and suspension to give you control tailored to each environment and condition. In Normal mode, HTRAC actively optimizes torque flow, to achieve maximum traction, regardless of the road condition. In Sport mode, HTRAC can transfer as much as 90% of the torque to the rear wheels for a more fun-to-drive experience on dry pavement.

That is for intelligent drive mode of the HTRAC with the settings? And not the engine controls description for other than traction control? On the 2WD V6 and V8 I was told by a factory person that the variable cams are in fact adjusted for better fuel economy. Up to a certain speed and throttle position.

We just made a road trip across the state in my 5.0 Genesis in ECO mode and got 25.02 mpg (calculated). On the way back we got 23.84 (calculated) due to used Sport Mode frequently to pass cars and also left it on once going through one town. Not bad for a car with 420 hp...
