  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Last weekend I drove 250 miles on Interstate 90 at a steady 75mph (in Eco drive mode), it was sub-zero temps and my mileage ended up at 21.3 mpg.
Looks somewhat low, I'm assuming that AWD and speed led to this.
I'm not particularly disappointed, just wondering if any others have experienced similar fuel economy.

Very low - I've normally gotten 30+ on straight highway - easily 27-28 mpg at that speed.

I was getting around 27-28mpg last weekend on a few hour round trip with cruise control set at 70mph in 30-40 degree weather on Shell regular unleaded in my 3.8 AWD. Terrain is relatively flat here. I've been getting about 23-24mpg average on my commute to/from work (mostly highway, a little city). I generally have been avoiding rush hour traffic.

Has anyone noticed any real differences in gas mileage between Eco and Normal on the freeway in the 3.8 AWD? I was toggling back and forth after every few miles and the instant gas mileage bar seemed to remain in the same place for the most part. With $10/barrel oil in the near future, I may just punch it in sport mode at every intersection (not really, I can't be too rough on Gen).

How many people/luggage were in the car?

I assume this is directed towards the OP, but I had 2 adults (myself included), a 3 year old and some immaterial stuff in the trunk when i was averaging around 27-28 in Normal mode on the free way.

Maybe for your 5.0 it's not abnormal but, as a 3.8 AWD owner, it DOES sound abnormal (too low) for the conditions he described: driving 250 miles in ECO mode at a steady 75 mph. Unless that was mainly uphill, it is significantly lower mpg than what I've gotten on the highway at that speed.

No doubt and you would obviously know better then me since I don't own the 3.8 awd. All I'm saying is if he had any city in his calculations (hoping he did the math himself) or if he was on 90 and had to hit turnpikes (toll booths) it is easily explained. Expecially if he likes punching that v6.

I think wind is one of your biggest problem in lowering MPG. I recently completed a 600 mile round trip...driving into the wind I got 24.6 MPG on the trip home with the wind in back of me 29.3 MPG
I'm very happy so far with MPG and I expect more improvement once I have more mileage on the Genny

Wow I didn't think wind would lower it that much. OP said I90 so if he is near Chicago it would explain it.

Mel I drove I90 to Florida and back recently averaging about 70 MPH. I am a very conservative driver and always drive in cruise control when possible My best achieved mpg so far has been an “Honest” 27 mpg on the way down and 26 mpg on the way back. My around town mileage is anywhere between 18 and 21 mpg doing roughly 60 % parkway. These are obviously not staggering numbers by any means but in my opinion acceptable for this kind of car. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with my car it runs great responds well and has absolutely no hesitation of any kind. Not sure what advantage ECO mode would do at 75 mph if any perhaps in warm weather it might alter the operation of the AC system to cut down on compressor operation but that ‘s about it. I can’t say for sure but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with your car maybe you should try reducing speed a little to say 65 or 70 mph and using cruise control as test. That’s if you want to see if it can do better if not just enjoy the ride that’s why you got it.

...how in the hell did you make it to Florida taking I90?

Something sounds a little off as I get 9.5L/100km or close to 25mpg on the highway and this is with V8 AWD. Now this is in long distance continuous highway @ 70mph typically when I drive from Montreal to NH on relatively flat road. Normally I am flying and burning gas faster than Saudi can produce it. :D

Speed has a heck of a lot to do with it. General rule of thumb is over anything over 50mph it is a rather steep and linear loss of mpg as your cruising speed increases. If you want to get the best possible you need to stay at 55mph, disengage cruise and do not try to keep speed going up hills within reason but I think we can all agree that would make driving rather boring unless you are one of those annoying "hyper-milers"

I haven't even put fuel in my genesis yet lol.

It was completely flat uninterrupted driving, temps were around -10°, cruise was set at all times at 75mph, it was extremely windy though.
Must be the combination of speed, AWD and the wind.
I will say this car devours the road effortlessly, long drives are a breeze.

I was kinda wondering the same thing myself. Any more, when I hit the Georgia-South Carolina line going north, I jump off onto Rt 321, which goes direct to Columbia. Traffic on I95 and I26 in SC is just terrible! And 321 is a wide-open 2-lane with lots of passing zones, and oh boy, does that Genny have legs!! Just be sure you slow down for the small towns with the local cop just waiting for the next victim.
