If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hey everyone with early build 09s. Have you had trouble with the vinyl on the interior b pillars getting damaged? Mine was replaced once under warranty and started to get damaged again. The dealer said it was a one time replacement, so I felt as if I was out of luck.

As it turns out I had a loaner 2010 Genesis and found out that there was a new style of vent cover that wraps the pillar and prevents the damage in the vulnerable area. In my case it actually covered the bad part. After some digging I was able to obtain the part #s and order them. They were dirt cheap $7.00 each and took about 5 minutes to replace.

I'll let the pictures do the talking from here.

What caused the damage?
(To be honest, I never knew they existed in my 26 months of leasership. )

Hmmmm Thats interesting. No damage on mine yet.....But I do make a habit of not keeping things in my back pockets or coat pockets. I try to not wear my motorcycle chain style belt anymore either....Like I did in the '80s. :D

I plan on keeping my Genny for a long time so if mine gets messed up somehow at least I know there is a cheap repair available. Thanks for the research and info tjc78!

1. Because I'm never in the back seat, I have not looked at those vents in a couple years. I'll look when I have a chance to see which type I have and the condition of the area around the vents.

2. As for the motorcycle chain that connects from my belt to my billfold, I still use it only because as I get older, I find I drop my billfold on the floor when I drop my pants in the bathroom.
This is only one of the things that happens to you when you get OLD.

Mine was damaged when I bought my Genesis used. The difference is that mine was worn towards the top of the vent. I posted pics of mine from about a year ago. The dealer replaced it under warranty. I asked if we could upgrade it to the newer kind that has hard plastic instead of vinyl - they said it would be impossible. Now I know I can replace it should it wear again! Thanks! I also will note that when I bought my 09 Genesis, there was an Equus in the showroom that had the SAME problem - however this was August 09' - so the Equus was the pre-American production Equus.

I think the damage is caused my your rear end rubbing against it when you get in and out of the car. Mine is still fine after they replaced it. I would think if it wore through again - they should replace it under warranty. I believe they had to replace the whole b-pillar section that is covered in vinyl. I am glad to know that for 7 bucks I can fix it later.

interesting, I have a 4.6 2009 no damage yet , not sure I like how "fat" the new cover is but I can see it would provide more protection..

They did replace the whole pillar section for me too. I never would have known the larger cover existed if it wasn't for having a loaner 2010.

I think I figured out exactly what damages it. If you are tall and have the seat all the way back, the rivets on your jeans is what must do it. I never have anything in my back pockets so I can't imagine what else it is.

I checked mine yesterday. Original old style vents. Still looks like new. No damage to the area.
