  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I bought a 2015 Genesis Sedan, 3.8 HTRAC, Black on Black with Ultimate. Wasn't easy to find that in San Diego, so I bought it used with 4,500 miles on it from Freysinger Hyundai in Mechanicsburg PA. I think I overpaid a bit at $41,800 but I don't mind since it wasn't easy to find that combo. ANYWAYS...I'm really excited, it should arrive on the back of a transport truck here tomorrow morning! WOOOO! But now what should I get for it? I already ordered a smart key card and read up about that, i'll want 19" factory wheels soon or aftermarket wheels that aren't too loud (maybe matte or chrome black). But what else? What are the coolest upgrades or mods you've seen? What's a good (but aggressive) level of tint? Which radar jammer is the best? escort 9500? what should i do with this thing?

Hi Andrew and welcome! Congrats on your new arrival. My thoughts on mods:

  • Not sure if 3.8s come with fogs; if they don't, I'd take a look at the fog-light mod for the 3.8s
  • Replacing the flying "H" badge
  • Aftermarket sub-woofer

As far as the 9500, that's a radar detector, not a radar jammer. Radar jammers I'm sure exist, but are illegal in most, if not all, states (which may or not be a deterrent, depending on one's perspective). I believe you are referring to the Passport 9500ci, which has a lidar "parking system". If that's in fact the case, then I would say do your research. "Independent" lidar jammer tests (if there is such a thing) would oftentimes contradict other "independent tests". In most cases, however, the ZR4s (the Escort unit) are considered "legacy" systems.

(Sal, any idea how to get strikethrough working on this forum?)

Sounds like you want to modify the car. First I would debadge and go with tint. Get to know the car a little and then decide if you want to go with aftermarket wheels and lower the car or if you like the ride and look with the factory 19's as well. The escort 9500 is a radar detector, not a jammer. Radar jammers are highly illegal, however you can purchase laser jammers to work in conjunction with you radar detector if California allows them, I am going to bet they don't.

The Genesis is a great car with wonderful lines and looks great modified in my opinion. Here are a few pictures of mine after modifications, you can see my build thread of my wheelwell account for more detail of what exactly is done. Good luck and I would love to see more modded Sedans on the boards!

Forget about the mods and upgrades until you fully inspect that car when it arrives. I'm assuming you have not seen it, or driven it. I ordered a slightly used dealer demo (new) '12 Genesis from a dealership named Pohanka in MD. The car was delivered via flatbed truck to my house VA with three areas of obvious damage, interior and exterior. The car was also accompanied by a letter certifying that it was damage-free. After I inspected the car and drove it, I told the flatbed driver to take it back. No money lost by me. The dealer ate the 400 mile delivery/return costs.

I'd like to have seen the delivery driver's face at that point!

The flatbed driver didn't care since he was making the return trip anyway. As for the dealership, they deserved what they got, and then some.

I just got the weather tech trunk liner. Its pretty cool.

Genesis badge for back is nice too if you prefer it.

Car ARRIVED early yesterday morning. Only took 3 days to arrive, and as far as I can tell it's in mint condition. The dealership took their time sending me the paperwork/title back so I have the car but no title yet, ridiculous that a trucker can deliver my car faster than the dealer putting paperwork in an overnight envelope. So I've been driving it insured but unregistered, whatever.

The car is AMAZING! I've been slumming it for a long time, and I'm blown away, this thing is ridiculously cool. I put a 120 miles on it Day 1, here are my initial observations:
--Great handling for a sedan, way better than the economy car I was in before, not as good as a "sports coupe" but it's not a coupe and it's every bit as good as I was expecting.
--Seats could be softer, overall the comfort is great, mostly because....
--YOU BARELY NEED TO USE THE PEDALS! Adaptive Cruise Control is AMAZING. I suspect my days of getting speeding tickets are over. Set the speed, take your feet off the pedals and forget about it. Works great for my socal freeway commute.
--Infotainment is great, wish it had a video IN function...I guess eventually something like that could come via aftermarket.
--Lane Keep, I'm 50/50 on this. It's super impressive when it's working, but as I knew when I bought the car...it's not ready to take over for anything more than approx 30 seconds. I've left the feature on all the time and found that it saved me a few times when i wasn't paying attention and it also annoyed me a few times when I tried to change lanes without signaling. It did not prevent me from changing lanes, but it did put up some resistance. i think if i remember to signal it won't fight me...which would probably be better.

I've got my trunk genesis wings (actually bought them hear in advance) and now I just need to find a local shop that can do the work well.

Anyone know where to find PDFs of the owners manual, DIS manual, and quick references? I have a massive stack of manual's that I'd rather just recycle.

I appreciate everyone's feedback and suggestions :)

They will soften/form a bit over time - but they are also firm (like my Azera was) so that they LAST for a long time.

Yep this is normal. It will try to correct you and if you give just a hair more pressure it will defeat - but warn you with feedback. Signalling (AFTER looking) is the best way to prevent this.

You can do it yourself. Very easy: http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=13583

You can read them from the comfort of your driver's seat on the display screen. Manuals are loaded onto the car & in the settings menu.

congrats! I actually removed all the foreign language parts of my manuals and now they all fit into the glove box.

Those manuals cost $300-$400 to replace, so don't let them get lost!

It is also all digitally in your cars system. You can access and sort anyway you want to while your sitting in your car.
