  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Back left tire came with "inside" instead of "outside" from factory? Other three say outside.

I'm a bit stumpped with this. I bought a 2020 Genesis G70 3.3T AWD during January of this year. I have around 13K miles on the car and was looking at the tires today when I noticed something odd. The back left tire has "inside" on the outside and seems to have come this way from factory? The other three tires say outside
I have not had any tire replacements or had any of the tires remounted. At 6k miles my back right tire blew out randomly while driving highway (75MPH). The back right tire was patched and still driving on it. I initially thought this was something separate.. but now wondering if this is related?

I called my dealership and they suggested that they will flip the tire now so it says "outside" instead.
I called Genesis and they said they don't handle tires and to call Michellin. I will try calling Michellin and seeing what they say

Does anyone have any thoughts? Is my tire tread or transmission affected now because of the one misrotated tire? Would it be okay to just take the dealer option and have it flipped to the correct side?

Would it be better to take this vehicle to a only genesis dealership instead of a hyundai/genesis? Also noticed I haven't been getting windshield fluid, even asked last time and they didn't during maintenance..

Attached pictures of the tire that says "inside"

Advice would be appreciated! Thanks

So what did the dealer say when you asked about this?

Hey!

I talked to service. They looked into my maintenance logs and they said the vehicle must have come from factory this way. They mentioned the only thing they can do is flip the tire so it says "outside" inside of "inside" and that's it. I asked about potential tread wear and damage to vehicle. The individual on the phone mentioned he was a service tech for 15 years and is a service manager now. He told me this would not cause any damage to the vehicle and should not have negatively affected tread wear.

I don't know how comfortable I am with switching the tires just like that... I'm assuming they say outside/inside for a meaningfull purpose, especially with how my back right blew out around 7k miles

If they are flipped, traction and wear would be my only concerns. To me, the biggest negative impact you would see is some weird handling characteristics when pushing it

Really odd. I need to check mine now for never looked in detail at the tire lettering. Genesis I’m assuming buys the wheels ready to install at the factory with tires mounted and such. It’s not a Michelin issue for the tire is probably fine. Dealer just needs to get the tire direction corrected. Genesis should stand by this for this is their escape plan and simple. I do not know enough about tires to know if tread wear will be affected, but you will have the dealer invoice showing tire direction was flipped so if a future issues came up you have something to bring back to the dealers attention.

They are designed that way mostly for traction and to avoid hydroplaning. Will have no affect on your running gear.

Probably was a bad day for the tire guy at the factory. Just get the dealer or any tire guy to flip it. I don't know what calling Michelin would do, they did not sell you the tire or install it.

Yeah I'm going to check mine now too. Ulsan, you can do better than this.

My guess is that when you had the back right tire repaired they installed it incorrectly and rotated your tires during a service moving it ot the left side. Did the dealer or an independent shop do the tire repair?

There is no tire guy any more at the factory. All modern plants have fully automated wheel cells where they mount the tires....
