Back sure gets dirty!

Even with mud guards the back of the GV70 is really filthy after driving through rain. Aerodynamics I suspect but disappointing. White car turned black on the back after an hour's drive.

Yup, I'm finding that really annoying too. With snow/slush/ice, it is a big wall of dirt and frozen slush after a drive. And of course the camera is unusable - and I know from experience if I just wipe the camera lens, it scratches it over time until you can't see when backing up into a light source. I wish the camera had a washer or a cover on it like some other vehicles (Lexus).

Mud guards are more to prevent rocks and road debris from being kicked up and leaving rock chips on the lower body panels. Nothing will save the back of the vehicle from getting dirty. My GV70 (silver) gets just as dirty as the back of the Ford Explorer (white), Volvo XC90 (silver), Audi S4 (black) and Jaguar F-Pace (black) I drive get dirty when driving in rain, snow or wet road conditions.

Since this is disappointing news, what vehicles have you owned in the past that do not exhibit this behavior?

I don't think sedans are quite as bad. My truck isn't as bad...just the nature of the back hatch on an SUV...it acts like a vacuum for dirt.

On the subject of mud guards, is anyone else underwhelmed by the skimpy little mudflaps Genesis sells for over $100?? I ordered these in the first week to protect my wife's new GV70 but they don't look like will provide any protection

At first I noticed it on the GV70 as well and thought the same thing but then I drove the other vehicles and realized this is quite common. Could just be more noticeable depending on the colour of the vehicle.

I have had trucks, SUVs and wagons (Outbacks) and none were better than the other for not collecting dirt on the back. GV is no better or worse.

My Suburban doesn't get nearly as bad, but I think it's because there's more overhang on the back - not so near the rear wheels.
