  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, first post on the forum. I recently bought a 2010 Genesis Coupe, 2.0T 6 speed. I've really enjoyed driving it so far, very hard to beat money to fun ratio. For a 2.0, it pulls very well with plenty of torque.

I have noticed the car will backfire in relatively reproducible circumstances. Between 3-3.5k RPM and +60% throttle, the car will backfire 2 or three times (it sounds like loud burps) as it passes through that RPM band. (Gearing does not seem to affect it and this is all with clutch fully engaged.) After that, it pulls very well with no audible issues. Also, worth mentioning, it passes very happily through that RPM band at lesser throttle conditions. Is this normal? (Likely not.) Pictures are attached, I bought the car used. Aftermarket power train parts include intake and intercooler. Note: I am currently running premium.

Pictures attached, hopefully this works.

Thoughts? Looking for guidance on where to start the troubleshooting process.

Ah, appears there is a small hole in the driver's side exhaust. As rich as I read this car runs plus air entering exhaust via hole, it seems like a likely culprit to me. Especially fuel flow ramps up as the turbo begins to spool at 3-3.5k.

Does this make sense?
