In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. My power steering went out a few weeks ago added fluid and was back in business, yesterday I get in the car and had no power steering I check the fluid and it was still full ...I don't see anything leaks around the rack the belt is not broken ...so my question is how can I tell if it's the pump or the rack? Opps forgot to add it's a 2011 4.6

what kind of power pump? belt drived or EHPS?

first of all, check EHPS fuses is good or not. there are two fuses. one is 80A, the other is 10A. 2BDC66AD-E766-4E9C-8BD5-FEF0C490D989.webp

remove the front bump, you will see the EHPS pump. one person in the car start the engine and turn the steering. one person touch the pump by hand. you will feel that pump is working or not.

the power pump hose is very easy to leak. I use 2 clamps to tighten the hose.994CCC3D-CCDB-446D-8519-EB78AD446BDD.webp

Ok before I pull the bumper let me ask you this...if I look in the power steering reservoir while the car is running if the pump is working shouldn't I see the fluid moving?

I am not sure, but you can try.

Because our car reservoir only has one hose. Other cars have two hoses connect to the reservoir, one is a return hose.

Our car return hose connects the power pump directly.

If all fuses are OK and remove the front bump you find the power pump is not working.

Try to inspect the connectors. 80A large current sometimes burns the inside connector.

Inspect the steering rack boots, if you find a torn rack boot replace it. Uncheck leak can let dirt into the steering rack system and damage it.

After replacing the power steering pump everything was fine for 2 weeks then I had no power again...so now I'm thinking the rack is bad ...went on youtube and did some searching... before buying a new rack I brought a bottle of Seafoam Transtune ... so far so good just wish I would've seen the video before I replaced the pump.

I need to try that Where did you purchase that Transtune again??

Autozone Seafoam be sure to get the Transtune not the regular one ...I used a turkey baster to suck out the power steering fluid then filled it with the Transtune...turned the wheel from lock to lock about 30 times then let it sit for 15 minutes used the turkey baster to suck out the Transtune...add OEM power steering fluid .... Good luck!
