  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

What is the best way to remove/install steering wheel badge? Also changing of the trunk badge. Is it easy enough for a layperson..Thanks

If you want to keep the original air bag in the center of the steering wheel, there is no need to remove the "H". The ($12) peel and stick winged emblem fits right over the 'H'. I cleaned the area first with alcohol and it stuck just fine. Of course, the genuine Genesis airbag looks fantastic, I am leasing and chose not to go that route. I have heard of someone heating the H and prying it up with pointed tools, but the extra recessing you achieve would be minimal. (I'm probably gonna' get a lot of flack on that, but that's my opinion.) To remove the rear "H" on the trunk, have ready a hand held hair dryer, a couple feet of fishing line ( got the cheapest spool at Walmart $3) and an unwanted "credit card" type of plastic card, and some adhesive removal product such as 'Goo-Gone'. Heat the H for about 30 - 45 seconds then take the fishing line, as if you are flossing, and work it underneath and around the H using a 'sawing motion). Understanding that there are 2 posts in the center of the H that sink into two small holes. They are not screwed in, they're just for allignment. After you've 'flossed' all the way around, use the credit card to pry the H away, gently working your way around the outer circle. It was easier than I thought. I preserved the H intack for replacing at end of lease if needed. By rubbing the excess adhesive with your fingers you can remove a majority of it. Follow it up with some "Goo-Gone" type cleaner then wash thuroughly. (Some have used WD-40 to remove the excess residue but car finish experts advise against that.) The front hood onament (should you opt to do that too, requires no prep, other than a wax free surface to 'peel & stick' the new emblem. Note: One month before I got my Genny, I saw a silver Genesis with the wings on the back and they also removed the 4.6 GENESIS lettering. It looked so sleek and mysterious that I did it too, and that process went REALLY QUICK! See my pix by clicking on my photo above, then click on the next photo to see all the photos. I hope this helped.

There are many excellent threads on this subject, some of which include video instructions. I would highly recommend that you use the forum search function to read up on the subject.

I will emphasize what is mentioned in the post above about the steering wheel badge (the one that goes on top of the H): Don't try and remove the H, it is not necessary and you may regret trying.
