  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

There us quite an extensive article on tomshardware.com stating base unit is running some customised version of Android (2.3 gingerbread is their guess) on a single core A9 cortex core at 1GHz, the upgraded infotainment is running an older Intel Atom processor with a Meego operating system.

My question is, is there a difference in the interfaces between the 2 systems? And can the Base unit be operated via the control wheel or is it a pure touch screen system? As the version I am interested in has the control wheel but it's the base system and apparently dosent have DIS, driver information system, which I don't know what it is...

Our is not the North American version and we get the multimedia controller in the front arm rest area as well as the back seat armrest on Base as well as upgraded versions of the infotainment system.

I didn't get a chance to use the Base system, only the upgraded one as that's what the test car had, it seemed good anyway. But I ordered the car with the Base unit.... Hopefully I won't have buyers remorse and test the car I actually plane on buying next time...

Would love to hear comments from owners who have used both systems.

Sorry for long post... [emoji6]

What country are you in? Trim levels are necessarily the same in the US as they in other countries.

It's the middle East version and Yes the trim levels are not the same, but the infotainment systems should be similar . One Base 8 inch and upgraded 9.2, but you do have a point as it's missing blue link and satellite radio as that function is not supported here, but the rest of the functionality should be very similar.

But either way I am interested what's the difference between the Base and upgraded, can I control Base with the armrest wheel and what is the driver information system?

First, I am assuming you are talking about the 2015 model.

Second, there are 4 trim levels for the 2015 Genesis V6 in USA:
  • Base
  • Signature
  • Tech Package
  • Ultimate
It sounds like there are 2 trim levels in Middle East, and the Base trim in Middle East many not be the same as Base Trim in USA. If you have any questions about how the infotainment systems work on Middle East models, I would visit your local Hyundai dealer and ask them.

Hey Parpi,

I'm in Saudi and purchased the 'Premier', which doesn't have the rotary dial (the Prestige and Royal do). I thought I would miss it, but to be honest, the touch screen infotainment system is pretty good. I don't face issues with touch responses/scrolling, etc. if that's the thing you are worrying about.

We do get other goodies like the rear armrest multimedia controls + car charging adapter. We also get split screen on the infotainment system, so you can Nav and see what music/radio channel is playing side by side. Not to mention the standard CO2 sensor as well. Smart trunk is also standard in the Premier version. Yes we do miss out on Bluelink and Sat radio.
