  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have a 2015 3.8. Left door open and drained battery. Finally got trunk open using a pole through the pass through opening (Did not realize there’s a key slot under far right of trunk lid!)

  1. To trickle charge or jump start do I have to remove both +/- cables from terminals or can I attach jumper or trickle charger cables with Existing Cables attached?
  2. Should I jump or trickle charge it - is one approach better than other. I don’t want to fry anything. Car has 72K on it and battery is orginal but performs well.
  3. Do I also remove ‘flat’ positive cable in addition to the cable on the positive post?
  4. Any other tips/advice appreciated
Thanks for quick replies!

You do not need to remove the cables. You can jump it to start it up, but if you are not in a hurry, best would be to charge it until it isfully charged.l

Thanks Dale! So either way I don’t need to remove any cables, just hook up either my jumper or trickle charger cables? I was thinking of jumping it off and driving to AutoZone for them to test it .

Trickle charger worked for 15 minutes then trouble light came on on the charger. Directions said trouble means either a short or that battery is too big which I suspect is what’s happening. Next I tried to jump it and all lights came on when I hooked to donor vehicle but would only make a ticking sound with lights flashing when we pushed starter button. I Let go of button and all interior lights were on but it would just not crank. Finally tried revving donor vehicle and that did not work either. I suppose now I have to remove a potentially good battery and buy a new one, all because I can’t jump it.

Should I try jumping again and let donor vehicle run for a while, meaning maybe it needs to build up some juice before attempting to crank it? I’ll give that a try.

Never mind - my wife read the correct part of the manual where it states you jump/charge it from under the hood at the fuse block. There’s a big ‘+’ nut in the FB and a big ‘-‘ nut near the air filter. Hooked it up and it started immediately. Who’s a thought a man wouldn’t read directions properly 🤒

It happens to the best of us.:)

I hook up my trickle charger to the same posts in the engine bay if I plan to park my Genesis for longer than a few days. Works just fine to keep the battery topped off.
