  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have trouble with battery dying overnight. According to the dealer, Genesis of the south shore in west Islip NY, they find nothing wrong but every time they give me the car back it happens again. Now they will not work on it anymore. What can I do I have check to make sure the car is off and lock dealer says it must be my wife a I after 3 yrs. of owning the car.

This is a pretty common issue here on the forums. It's generally the radio/head unit. Once replaced, problem goes away. Maybe do some more research on the head unit and take it to them. Or find another dealer.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
If all else fails. And if you're any good with troubleshooting. Use a dmm to determine which fuse is drawing current overnight (likely the radio). And put a tap in and add a switch. Would be less than $5 plus your time. It's not ideal, but if the dealer refuses to help...

The dealer is insisting there is no problem and is now saying it must be my wife and I are doing something to cause the drain after 3 years of ownership. A now wants nothing more to do with it

Jim C, when there is an intermittent problem it is more difficult to trouble shoot. If you say it happens every night then they should keep the car over night and see if it starts in the morning. If it starts then it’s not happening every night.
Trouble shooting an intermittent issue, it will help them if your exact on your details of the problem. You will need to try and give them as much details possible but try to keep it to things you know for sure. And let them know things like if it’s parked indoors or outside. A battery can be affected by a 20 deg temperature difference. The more exact you can be it will help them.
Also as mentioned earlier if you know your way around a DVM you could trouble shoot it yourself. There is a too much info to type for someone to walk you through the proper trouble shooting of a battery drain issue. Sorry.

Unfortunately when there are these type of problems if you don’t try the dealers don’t try either. It’s not right but it seems to happen.
Good Luck with the problem.

You need to contact Genesis and complain. Get the regional dealer 'supervisor' involved and things will get done.

Genesis Corporate has been involved since the beginning of the year.

Ready for this. I was going to wait until next week to post but here is a preview. As of the middle of last month they were still unable to reproduce the problem but every time I took it home it wound go dead. I was truly going mad. The blame started to fall on security cameras I have around the house and in the garage, they have been there for years. It was thought that the IR was causing the problem, somehow. We went back and forth on this because even during daytime, no IR, the problem happened and with cameras turned off, but then maybe a camera somewhere else, did it?? I finally went out and bought a clamp meter and every day two or three times a day I would check the current. Long story made short finally found that remote starting the car from the app was causing a current draw of 3.4 amps. Even if I drove the car, started it manually and then parked it the current would stay until battery dead. So, I gave them this information and they took the car back, tested it and now say I need a replacement part. Found out yesterday that the part, I think the head unit, is not available in the US, do to I think a redesign and may not be available for a while. Waiting to hear more next week.

Jeez Louise, that's ridiculous. I've about it had it with this cars weirdness. :(
