I left my trunk open for 8 hours, I have LEDs (single emitter per light) two lights total. The batter would not even click in the starter solenoid. Took 6 hours on a 10 amp charge to even get it to the point of being able to crank. Does that seem acceptable?

Even with an 8-hour drain from two LED's it should not have drained the battery so much that you couldn't start the car. I would suspect that the battery was depleted to start with which means it is probably not taking/holding a full charge. I would have the battery Load Tested to find out its true condition.

Modern cars have so much crap on them it is hard to say what else might have been running when that trunk was open. Having said that, I'm a bit surprised about the recharge time. Sounds like your battery might be in bad shape.

Thanks will Have load tested. I assume a Hyundai Dealer can do that? Hope that is not a bad assumption.

Was the keyfob left in the car by any chance? I remember reading something about the CD light and the LCD screen stays "background" lit... it was draining someone elses battery. Not sure if that is or was the final problem though.

You should also consider the possibility of a bad alternator. I left on a short 3 day trip and found my car with a dead battery. Had AAA help me out and limped it over to the dealer. They replaced my alternator under warranty. Either way, have your local dealer check it out.

Slightly off subject -- A while back, I checked to see who has batteries for the Genesis. Found that Interstate Batteries has one, with a price above $200. (Can't remember exactly what the price was). Then I found that the Jag XJ8/XJR takes the same battery, and Interstate has it listed for just under $200.

When I was out in New Mexico, I went with my old Shipmate to Sam's Club (I'm not a member) and found that they have the Jag battery for just a little over $100. Exact same battery except the vent hose comes out the side, not the end of the battery.
If my memory is correct, I think it said that it was a Group 92 battery (but I could be wrong). Yesterday, while at Sears, I checked the Die-Hard, and Sears does not have the battery listed for either the Genesis or Jag. One of these days, I will check Auto Zone and Advance Auto, just to see if they have it listed.

I just bought a V8 (Tech package). After 500 miles (less than a week) I began to have Battery issues.

First the car would not start. The starter solinoid clicks but not enough juice to turn over. A jump starts the car but the battery does not maintain power. I tested the alternator and the tester shows that it is recharging.

I also have had XM radio shut off, radio / navi sound go dead, navigation resetting the programmed route while driving.

Even after recharging to 100%, the batery only has enough juice to start once or twice. This morning, I found something curious. While recharging the battery (charger indicator showed about 90% power) I opened the doors. Immediately the battery dropped to 20% (about 9 volts). As soon as I open the the door the voltage drops. It must be a electronic / computer issue.

As today is a holiday, I will be visiting the dealer tommorow. It's getting me nervous. Did I get a lemon?

If anyone else out ther have found a solution, or can advise what to do, please let me know. I will share any finding I get. I hope the dealer knows what they are doing. At least, I feel a little better that this may not be an isolated issue as I hjave seen other forums describe the same problems.

Just reread this post, and the battery for our cars is a Group 49.

Also, the battery in our cars is warrantied for two years, unlimited milage, full replacement cost.

Hmmm, just put as group 49 in the Mercedes.:D This is one bad boy. AGM so no fumes or vent tube to worry about. Being AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) it is non spill-able. http://www.remybattery.com/Products/AGM-European-Performance-Battery__9AGM49.aspx Unfortunately I would assume all Genny batteries are under warranty so you will not be getting this one. :(

I posted last year on this issue,as I had the same problems. My Genny V8
would not start on several occasions, for no apparent reason.I jump started
it 3 times, then took it to the dealer. They said the battery was fine,no problem
Told me not to leave the Smart key in the car at all when not driving.Even
though my car is garaged, they say to keep the smart!! yea rite! at least 15
to 20 feet away from the vehicle?? I promise you I did utter a few choice
words in their direction.Called HMC,took the car back to the dealer.Lo & behold the problem was discovered. There is a black switch located insde
the hood on the drivers side. It's about 1/2 way up.So open the hood and
look for it.In my case, the damn thing was missing.Any hoo they put it in
and the problem solved!!! I now keep my smart key in the friggin car where
it belongs & have not had a battery ptoblem since. JNP

OK Mystery solved (.. for good I hope)
I had to jump the car to get it to the dealer. At the dealer, the car starts up right away during their diagnostic, making for strange looks by the service technicians. Fortunately after about 3 starts, the car failed to start again. I guess they now believed me :)

To make long story short, it was the battery. Apparently there was an internal short. New battery was installed under warrantee and it seems to have fixed the issue. I am still leary because technicians still can't explain the shutting down of sound and navi while driving.

For now ... unless something else pops up I'm a happy camper

I would like to look into that switch. Where is it exactly?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It's called a hood pad switch.part # 92736-3a000 Raise the hood, look about 1/2 way up on the drivers side reenforcement rail & you will see it.It;s a small black rectangular piece.Maybe rubber.I do beleive it has recently been upgraded.hope this helps.

Ughh...my 2nd dead car experience with the Genesis!!! Went on a 10 day trip this time and came back with a dead battery. Needed jump start again and took it to dealer. They checked battery and alternator and said everything was okay. They suggested to me to disconnect the battery if a I take another trip!

What BS! 10 days is NOT a long trip. Something does not add up. I just hope I don't need another jump before my lease expires next month.

Do you have the Tech Package? Sounds like there may be some electrical problems with the Tech Package like always drawing power even when car is idle.

Having to disconnect the battery for a 10 day trip is just ridiculous.
I'm assuming it's the battery or there's an electrical issue in the system.
Even when the car is turned off, the BUS network in the car is not.
It'll remain on for a few seconds to few minutes while all the modules in the vehicle goes to sleep.
There may be a module that's not going to sleep, thus keeping the vehicle BUS alive. This will lead to battery drain even if the car's parked for a couple of days.

Mine fired up just fine after being in storage for 2 weeks while I was out of town.

I have owned my 2009 Genesis (V6/tech pkg) since Feb/09. I started having dead battery issues this past April. Every couple of weeks I will find that I can't open my doors remotely. I have to use the key, put the fob into the receptacle, then it will start. I have to drive for approx. 15 minutes before the radio and Nav system comes to life. I have taken it to two different dealerships without any luck. I also have to reset the clock after each of these instances. I am getting pretty fed up; the dealers say they can't do anything unless an "error" code is stored in the system. What a croc !!

I find it hard to believe (yes I do believe you) that there is enough battery power to start the car, but not enough to power the door locks, or the radio and Nav system.

Next time this happens, call the Hyundai number and have them come and tow your car to a dealer. Then let the dealer work on it. Dealer can't do anything if the problem does not show up at the dealership, or if there is no computer fault code. Call the Hyundai number and have them tow it in.

Sounds like what mine was doing.....Here's my post in the "Head Unit" thread..

*SIGH*

I had my first "issue" with the head unit today. I got in my car and it wouldn't start! Dome lights wouldn't work, no radio, blue tooth, DVD/CD/USB and a blank NAV screen and way too much else to list. The smart key wouldn't lock or unlock the doors......I noticed a blue LED blinking at me and it was the smart key socket, so I put the key into the socket and the key started the vehicle. The car drove fine, but no electrical basically, so nothing worked electronically.

To save a long ass post, I checked a crap load of fuses to see if one had blown, and after too long I checked the breaker fuse located in the driver side fuse panel, and it was a little loose. Just by touching it everything turned back on and works great!

Maybe this post will save someone else some headache if they every have the same symptoms.
