  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys I am hoping somebody can help me I have not been driving my car much and I think I left the door slightly a jar so my battery died. I try to jumpstart it with the jumping points by the engine and when I did the car seem to have enough juice but it would not start all the lights and everything in the car were flashing. I question is should I try jumping it directly at the battery in the trunk? Should I just put it on a trickle charger for a few hours then restarted? If anybody can help I would greatly appreciated thank you.

Stay with the jump posts under the hood. Probably, your jumper cables are not heavy enough, most aren't. Try leaving the donor car connected and running for about 15 minutes to charge your battery, then try to start it (without disconnecting). If you get it started, drive for at least 30 minutes to recharge the battery. If you can wait, overnight with a trickle charger is not a bad idea either.
Be aware that if your battery is old, it may not recover from this and may need to be replaced. If it is not performing well, it will add a lot of stress to your alternator possibly leading to it failing and needing to be replaced too.

The charger may be a good idea but I'd also check the cable for good connection. How old is the battery?

Hi joegr thanks for the input, I bought this vehicle this past May and I think the dealership replaced the battery, I can reach out to them and ask. Would a portable jumper work better? The local Advanced Auto is telling me they will let me take their portable jumper home and try to start the car.

EdP I think the battery is basically brand new.

That depends on the jump pack. Some are good and some are not. Anyway, it's probably worth a try.

Are you saying that you jumped it and it subsequently stalled? Might be an alternator if so -- car should run until you shut it off regardless of battery health.

No I am saying when I jumped the car it wouldn’t start at all when I hooked up the jumper cables all the lights and everything in the car started working but when I put my foot on the brage and hit the ignition all the lights, brake lights etc. just start blinking but nothing happens. The car doesn’t turn over.

Ok guys quick update I took the battery to Advance Auto Parts they put the battery on their charger for over 24 hours after this car started right up, this was after I reinstalled the battery in the car of course. Only thing now is that my key fob is not working anymore, the car recognizes the fob so I can start the car and drive but the lock, unlock and trunk buttons are not working do I need to reprogram it or something?

Sorry I feel like I am just answering my own questions. But from I found on the internet with the key fob not working to reprogram it you have to sit in the car and put car in acc. also after this push the open/unlock button on the fob until the lights flash. I did this just this morning and while I don't think my lights flashed the key fob started working :).
