  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Be careful about extremely negative posts!

They might be real and accurate and, then again, they might not. Trolls and mis-information specialists regularly pollute the Internet with their garbage. Some are just having their twisted form of fun and some are diabolical.

The Genesis threatens some owners (of other luxury cars who payed too much) and some manufacturers (who enjoy charging too much) and it will attract its share of B.S. artists who are motivated to defame it, punish it for its audacity and success, and create doubt.

The Genesis is hardly above criticism, but it is a tad revolutionary and thus it is attracting some unfounded and unwarrented criticisms at this point.

I agree, people that post negative comments about the car, should not be afraid to give their location and the dealers that they visited. You'd think they would want to. This would at least give the dealerships a chance to rebut the negative claims.

Exactly what indication do you have that anyone on this forum has done so? I could as easily post a warning to take with a grain of salt any post that offers bubbly enthusiasm for a product - it may well be from a shill for the manufacturer.

The Genesis is a fine car. Considering the price, it is a good value as well. I have experience with exactly 4 Genesis' - mine, my boss's, and a co-workers. Mine is an absolute lemon. My boss's first was a lemon. My co-workers seems to be perfect. Hyundai replaced my boss's lemon expeditiously, and he replaced it with a 2010 model. Hyundai has been maddenly bad at taking care of my issues. That's the truth, and from my perspective the customer anecdotes on here, good and bad, seem quite plausable.

I agree sarge.. I really dont think people with real issues with their cars are all trolls and diabolical people.

I have the suspension issue with the early 09's. Lots of post out here from me about this. My Genesis is still up on rails in my garage and I refuse to drive it until I can trade it in for something better.

I'm guessing the truth as ususl lies somewhere in between with a fairly small number of inauthentic posts both pro and con and mostly truthful posts otherwise. The hard thing for a prospective buyer like me is trying to gauge the true extent of problems that get reported. I have researched products large and small on forums like this prior to buying and always seem to have that same problem. A car is obviously a big purchase and getting a lemon, which is possible with any product especially a car, stinks. At the end of the day I will probably do what I always end up doing and bite the bullet and hope for the best. I am somewhat reassured by the true delta estimate of a <1% chance of getting a lemon with the Genesis, although I don't really know how accurate that info is.

Just looked at the latest Consumer Reports and they still rate the Genesis best in it class of entry level luxury above the Lexus and Avalon. Also, they did a survey on whether present owners would buy their car again. Genesis came in second with, I think, 84 or 86%, only a few percentage points below the leader Acura TL, at 88%. It obvious that the Genesis, while certainly having some problems like all other makes, is a fine automobile and has a great owner loyalty, the ultimate judge.

Seatle I'll probably do the same but until that day I'm going to drive it...should at least get some value. My one and only issue is the firmness (too much) of the suspension. I keep hoping that any day someone finds the exact aftermarket solution (shock and/or springs) that makes the Genesis a really great car. I think the Avalon and the Lexus ES 350 are due for a make over next year...If there is no aftermarket alternative and the Avalon/ES 350 has a makeover (I hate its present look) then I'll jump off the Genesis bandwagon.

It's one thing is someone has an issue w/ his/her Genesis, but it's another thing to make a blanket statement (basically stating that all Genesis have that particular problem or issue, or that everyone feels or should feel the same way about it).

Hey Vince,
There is a solution and thats to get the upgrade to the 2010 suspension. Guys have done it and report some success. It does cost $1800 just in parts. Not sure I want to unload $1800 plus the cost of installing it. I think that money would be best used for trade in money. Im thinking about the new Equus, but only for 2012 or maybe a 2012 Genesis with new engine.
Who knows... still up in the air about Hyundai. The local service has been very good.

It cost me 1100 plus 700 dollars labor to do the suspension upgrade.

Sorry Chris. I stand corrected.

No problem....

One more point on this thread and it may have been said. We need all view points both good and bad because Hyundai will need to address or fix issues with our cars if enough people speak up. I am sure they read these forums and use them for quality assurance and marketing research.

Yup - trends are where you find the truth. Anecdotal information is usually taken more seriously by people, but they should focus on the broad view to see where things lie.

I didn't find the OP's post offensive as some of you have. He was just saying to take really negative posts with a grain of salt. If you don't think there are forum trolls, then you clearly haven't been on too many forums... He didn't say that all negative posts should be ignored, just to show caution when reading them. I think everybody would agree that a healthy site should include the negative posts with the positive.

The effect of the OP was to cast aspersions on users reporting problems with their Genesis. It isn't exactly reasonable to assume that wasn't his intent - his post is crafted to allow no other reasonable interpretation. That's all well and good, of course, but there should be no expectation that such a post will go without comment.

The value of this forum is the information to be found here. Valid, negative information is considerably more valuable than valid positive information - simply because there is an abundant source of positive anectdotal information already floating around. If not for these types of sites, the general public would never hear of the relatively limited but very real problem with the '09 models DIS, for example.

On the other hand, maybe I've missed the intent of this website. If it was founded to be an internet Genesis Fan Club, then I'm off the mark.

Hey Gambler, you read it the way I wrote it! Good for you! I hardly thought that it would start a pee-pee contest and that was certainly my intention.

To offended forum members, calm down and re-read my original post.

That's my story and I am sticking to it.

I now see where you are coming from ....http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=6107 You should have stated this up front, rather than snipe at my generic post.
