  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2012 3.8L Genesis Sedan Prem/Tech

I just purchased this vehicle and I am curious to what the community is using for their exhaust and what performance mods will increase the acceleration for this vehicle. Thanks in advance!!

+++ I am considering going to a 20" staggered or 22" setup but everything else is stock currently +++

I was just talking to a guy and he put the magnaflow exhaust system on his. Its for the 5.0 but you can take it to a shop and they will do the modification to make it fit. Im thinking about doing it too. For suspension. I was talking to a rep here from cali and he got this company from korea called garcia factory. They make air suspensions for the genny.

Yeah, just check out my CD link below. I gave thom some info. I've done about all you can to the 3.8 without major modification.

Thanks! So magnaflow exhaust and cold air intake basically?

There is nothing performance wise that you can do that will make a lick of difference. There is basically no aftermarket support for these cars. You can do exhaust for noise, just know that going after more power is a dead end.

I don't normally play the contrarian, but do you have dynos to back up that a free flowing exhaust and intake produce zero gains? I know the coupes have dynos showing gains with bolt ons even without a tune.

Even if the gains aren't huge without a timing/AFR tune, you still get some from increased pump efficiency any time you remove restriction on the intake or exhaust side. I will buy the argument that some gains (like the leaning out of AFR with low-restriction intakes) get trimmed out by the ECU, but you can't just say there are zero gains without some sort of substantiation.

I'm not arguing that you won't see any gains. I'm arguing that you won't gain enough to make a discernible difference. Any "gains" your butt dyno picks are going going to be placebo due to having a louder car, not from actual improved acceleration. The actual gains will be too small.

True. The 10% rule before you feel anything applies here from my experience. Assuming a 25% drivetrain loss I'm putting around 260ish to the ground. You're not getting 26+ horsepower from bolt ons on a v6 already pushing 333hp at the crank. Probably more in the 15hp range. Still knocks a few tenths of your measurable times though.

@zielritter you have a custom intake or a chromeintakes??

Custom intake made with 3.5 pvc with heat resistant paint. I actually just turned it into a full blown CAI so I didn't have to mess around with heat soak. I used a k&n filter and hose and mounted the filter laterally in the passenger side wheel well. I need to put some pics up.

Any pics of the CAI?

Sorry I missed this. You can direct message me in the future if you're looking for info. I'll post an updated pic when I get home this afternoon. I've made some tweaks (like for the 14th time) since my original comments.

The CAI snorkel wasn't the ideal diameter and my filter was getting wet even with a shield. I've since gone back to an SRI with a well built heat shield. I also piped the stock ducting, which runs to the front facing intake "scoop" above the radiator, into this heat shield.

Although this stock ducting/intake doesn't connect to the filter directly, the design should still be pulling in a degree of outside air due to the low-pressure zone in the heat shield and the resulting pressure differential.

It'll make more sense when I put pictures up.

get the custom exhaust .because I have a x pipe and section 3 on my rear
I can feel the difference.

Our secondary cat deletes have been dyno proven for more power. Otherwise...I'm trying to break free and get things together to get my protoypes replicated. Ugh...too many hats.
