"If the Cadillac CTS-Vpushes the envelope, Hyundai's new Genesis has the capacity to reinvent its market. Ostensibly an entry-level luxury vehicle, the Genesis, in V-8 guise at least, actually compares with BMW's 550i and Mercedes E550.
In fact, it does more than compare; it competes head to head with BMW's top-of-the-line 5-Series with a 4.6-L "Tau" V-8 that pumps out 375 h. p. and is as well behaved and as sophisticated as the Bimmer's much-lauded V-8. The Genesis handles all but as well and the interior is more luxurious if not quite as feature-filled. Hyundai's leather, for instance, is second only to Audi's.
As if that's not enough, the V-8 version of the Genesis retails for just $44,995 and there's even a more economical V-6 model priced at only $37,995. Not since Lexus upended the luxury market in the early '90s with its LS 400 has so much been offered for so little."
