  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I searched for any previous thread on this topic and didn't find one, so my apologies if this is covered territory!

Obviously one of the major points of contention with the Genesis 8-speed tranny is the laziness of it, primarily when downshifting under WOT. Unlike many similar cars, there is no distinct Sport mode for the TCU that makes the shifts more quick and aggressive. That made me wonder exactly what Eco Mode does since, at least on my car, it's enabled by default.

I haven't looked through the manual myself yet, but a little Googling produced some interesting thoughts that, when enabled, it does slow down shifting even under hard acceleration as well as going lighter on other eco drains such as the AC. I turned it off this morning and felt like it made a pretty nice difference in throttle response, but I was also driving in the rain so I didn't push it much! I'll be interested to see how it feels on nice dry pavement if/when it ever stop raining in Austin!

Has anyone else played with this to see if it improves the TCU's throttle response algorithms?

While the Eco mode does do things for other Hyundais, it's only a indicator light on the genney to let you know when you are driving in a fuel efficent manner. It does nothing in the ECU, as per the manual. ;)

The increase you "felt" was either a placebo effect or as has been discussed in other threads, the learning curve of the ECU as you start to "drive" the car differently.
