  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis G70
Over in the G80 section, folks are experiencing premature peeling of the dark film which is overlayed on to the chrome trim for the sport models. I hope we dont experience the same thing, but it looks to be the same design. Something to keep an eye on. I was hoping that the dark chrome was the base color of the material, but its apparently just a tint coat applied over the base chrome.

I think they replaced the chrome trim on many of those G80s. I make a mental note to avoid excessively rubbing at the chrome trim during car washes

When are they going to fix the water smudges!! <-- I can't tell which emoji is the sarcastic "eye roll" but yeah, the rain drop can be a pita.

I noticed on Saturday when giving the car its inaugural detail that those chrome door handles are serious fingerprint magnets. Same with the black trim between the front and rear doors.

This is why I roll with microfibers close to hand.

Agree and I roll with a pack of those towels in my trunk along with detail spray, etc... lol I've also adopted some unique under handle grab techniques.

This has been resolved. No G70’s affected.
Oh, sweet. Where did you find that info? are they using a different process or something?

Coating over chrome is never a good idea. It’s too slick for most finishes. I had some Craiger wheels way back that came with a light gold tint on the center wheel area that went well with the gold color of my Camero. Problem was that gold tint overlay peeled easily showing the bright chrome below. Had all the wheels replaced more than once by the dealer. After the last replacement set I clear coated the center gold area with clear lacquer and that seemed to fix the problem. Hopefully Genesis solves the issue with their coating process.

I go for finger tips only overhand. The only spot on the chrome that gets touched is the door unlock button

Sounds like the same problem that black stainless kitchen appliances have. They scratch and wear easily. DON’T BUY THEM!
Yup, same kind of design. Tinted coating over the base material. Hopefully mine lasts.

Anyone know what this might be near the B Pillar? I have the G70 sports trim

Looks like a weld joint. Is it glue? Corroded metal?

Almost feels like plastic, but I can't see any lines. It also feels pretty stuck on and not something I should peel off.

Try gently scraping it with your finger nail...at the very edge. Should come up. Should be smooth...that should not be there. Thinking it's just some glue/goop left over.

Could be some tree sap or something

To me it looks like protective plastic that should have been removed. I would try to peel it and if that isn't the case, you should have no issue at the dealer as that definitely seems like a defect.

Looks like the protective coat is scratched. You should show it to the dealer.

This is what it looks like to me. Or a remnant of it. It already looks like crap, just try to peel it off. Definitely looks like the protective wrap still on there. That stuff is really stuck on but should peel off once you get it going.

When I zoom in, to me it looks like that plastic wrap is still on your trim, you can see the grain!

Thanks everyone for the replies. When I get back from vacation, I'll definitely try to peel it off with more effort to see what happens. I feel more comfortable to do so after reading everyone's comments. If anything bad happens I'll let the dealership know.
