  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just wanted to give a quick update to my GV70. I absolutely love the vehicle, this car is amazing! The one thing I wish we had the option when purchasing the vehicle is regarding the wheels. I saw a picture floating around of a red GV70 with the OEM wheels in black. I took it upon myself to try and do the same as best as possible. I got price quotes for having the wheels professionally powder coated but it's not worth it in my opinion. I've attached pictures below of the progress. I am halfway through the project as I had to stop applying coats to let the wheels dry so I could drive for work. I still have six more coats to get the glossy finish I want. I feel that gloss black will look the most OEM versus a matte or satin finish. Sorry for the low-res pic of the car with the wheels back on, taken from office desk. Once I have finished the project completely, I will post better pictures. Also, the pictures of the wheels painted were in between coats and have a hazey look as I did not wait until they dried.

If anyone is interested in doing the same, ask away!

Do you know which trims come with these wheels?

What kind of prep did you do besides taping the tires?

Yes, I am using a newer product called Superwrap. In a nutshell it behaves and is applied like plastidip but the product itself is the same vinyl material they use for wraps. So if applied properly, you can get a very glossy black. Which is what I will have once I am able to finish the project and apply more coats. The coats now are more of a base coat before hitting it with wet coats for the gloss.

I took the wheels off and thoroughly cleaned them with ph neutral wheel cleaner. Then the kit I ordered comes with a prep spray that removes any residue left over from other wheel cleaners or tire shine so I hit it twice with that because it is the most important part to make sure the product adheres correctly. And then moved on to the prep which takes the longest time but necessary. Links are below.

Check out the wheel section of dipyourcar.com for a wide selection of colors and kits.

Problem is you still have these rims.

I definitely like the rims fully blacked out but I'll probably just buy a new set so I can equip some snow tires. I'll get those black and then just use different summer tires I think.
