  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

i never realized how big the side mirrors are and what a blind spot

I don't think they're bad at all, I've seen some vehicles (Jeep and Mercedes SUVs) with much larger side mirrors..

I agree. That spot seems huge to me too. Whenever I turn left, I feel myself leaning forward to get a better view so I don't inadvertently clip the center divide or whatever.

The "B" pillar is a much bigger problem for me....If I have a passenger in the front seat it is almost impossible to see traffic coming from the right :=(

Can't say I've really noticed an issue - other than it seemed to take me forever to get the mirrors positioned perfectly. Maybe it's down to what you are used to. Can't say that it seems noticeably worse than my Sonata - which wasn't any better or worse than most mainstream sedans.

For the driver's side, you can get a little blind spot mirror.

Or trust the BSA...

For me the blind spot isn't to the rear. I'm referring to the blind spot slightly in front of me and to my left as I'm making a turn into a driveway or whatever. The view of things down low like curbs or whatever is obscured by the front roof pillar and the side view mirror.

Check out this video and get rid of rear view blind spots....it really works

I am old school and I would never used that method/technique.... its BS.

I got over 2.5 million miles behind me (no accidents) and a proper use of side view mirrors is that you should just barely see your car door or door handle in the mirror, then you have a reference point for everything else you see in the mirror. Period.

Buy one of those small, stick-on convex blind spot mirror and you'll be good ;)

triple whammy causes the blind spot on each side when going forward and turning. mainly to the right.
1) door windows bottoms are higher than traditional sedans. Dash is very tall. So driver needs to be taller to see out windows, especially passenger side

2)windshield/roof pillar is very wide (probably to give rollover support to roof). Large mirror and mount assembly is right behind roof pillar creating a 24 inch long blind spot. There is no glass between roof pillar and mirror assembly.

3)power seat cushion doesn't elevate but 1-2 inches . needs to come up 6 to 8 inches to put me high enough to see over passenger side mirror. I am 5'8". If I was 6'4" or taller , I would have a better chance of seeing over mirror.

I have to be extremely careful not to hit a pedestrian or bicycle, both of which can be totally hidden. Also can't see curb when going around a turn.
Maybe this is the new normal for sedans

I'm thinking some curb feelers may be in order. Talk about old school. My 2015 does not have the 360 view cameras.

I thought the same thing, you need to see your car in the mirror to have a reference point. And I also thought the dash seemed high. But then again my newest ride before my 15 was 04 . So I think that is the way they are making them now. Need A big dash for all those electronics!!🙂

I'm 6'4 and never noticed any of the above issues. :)

You are at least partly correct. Yes, it is somewhat the new normal but I don't have a lot of comparisons. To meet the side impact safety standards now in effect the doors have been redesigned compared to years ago.

I don't have a problem at 5'10" but I'm told that 2" makes a huge difference. Not sure if that applied to cars though.

That's too funny!!@@😂

I quickly found that the side mirrors are comically tiny for a car this big....

This sounds like a personal problem to me. My Genny's mirrors seem to be perfectly sized, lol.

I noticed the same thing: driver side door mirror blocks view to the left; I've missed seeing pedestrians approaching from the left, right side too but not as bad. I keep on thinking of asking a friend of mine to make me "lifts" to put between the floor and the seat tracks.
