i never realized how big the side mirrors are and what a blind spot
i never realized how big the side mirrors are and what a blind spot
Check out this video and get rid of rear view blind spots....it really works

I am old school and I would never used that method/technique.... its BS.
I got over 2.5 million miles behind me (no accidents) and a proper use of side view mirrors is that you should just barely see your car door or door handle in the mirror, then you have a reference point for everything else you see in the mirror. Period.
Buy one of those small, stick-on convex blind spot mirror and you'll be good![]()
I thought the same thing, you need to see your car in the mirror to have a reference point. And I also thought the dash seemed high. But then again my newest ride before my 15 was 04 . So I think that is the way they are making them now. Need A big dash for all those electronics!!triple whammy causes the blind spot on each side when going forward and turning. mainly to the right.
1) door windows bottoms are higher than traditional sedans. Dash is very tall. So driver needs to be taller to see out windows, especially passenger side
2)windshield/roof pillar is very wide (probably to give rollover support to roof). Large mirror and mount assembly is right behind roof pillar creating a 24 inch long blind spot. There is no glass between roof pillar and mirror assembly.
3)power seat cushion doesn't elevate but 1-2 inches . needs to come up 6 to 8 inches to put me high enough to see over passenger side mirror. I am 5'8". If I was 6'4" or taller , I would have a better chance of seeing over mirror.
I have to be extremely careful not to hit a pedestrian or bicycle, both of which can be totally hidden. Also can't see curb when going around a turn.
Maybe this is the new normal for sedans

That's too funny!!@@You are at least partly correct. Yes, it is somewhat the new normal but I don't have a lot of comparisons. To meet the side impact safety standards now in effect the doors have been redesigned compared to years ago.
I don't have a problem at 5'10" but I'm told that 2" makes a huge difference. Not sure if that applied to cars though.
Point scored sir! This sounds like a personal problem to me. My Genny's mirrors seem to be perfectly sized, lol.
