If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed that there is a precondition for the remote start to work:

It has been less than 4 days since last vehicle ignition off

Anyone know the rationale behind this? reminds me of the one commercial where a family is flying into a snowy airport and remotely starts the car. With this system, they would have had to been away no more than 4 days.

The 4 day limit seems to preclude me from using it under the situation I can envision using it the most.

So just curious what the rationale might have been?

Never heard that. Have to try that on my 2013.

Do the hazards blink when you remote start and while the engine is running?
Man I hate that feature on the 2013s. Hope they eliminated it on the 2015s.

havent heard of that the only one that i know of is the car must be locked and you cant let the car know the key fob is near. i use it daily more the once.

Here is the entire list of pre-conditions directly from the blue-link website:

Remote start preconditions:

It has been less than 4 days since last vehicle ignition off
Ignition is off
Alarm is armed (i.e., vehicle locked by key fob, remote door lock)
Gearshift level is in the "P" (park) position
Brake pedal is not depressed
Engine hood is securely closed
All the doors are closed and locked
The tailgate or trunk lid is closed
The security/panic system is not activated
The proximity key is not inside the vehicle
The battery power is not low
Vehicle is located in an open area

Vehicle located in an open area. That's a good one to ensure you don't kill yourself by starting it up inside your garage and dying of carbon monoxide ingestion

When I go on vacation, my 2009 tech turns off the electronics after so many days to conserve the battery. I always have to use the key to enter the car when I return, but as soon as I do, the fob works again. I wonder whether it is a similar situation where some of the electronics are turned off after so many days.

not sure but I would routinely go 5-9 days without driving my 2012 genesis, and the key fob always worked. Went 14 days on vacation and parked at airport and even then key fob worked.

However, you may be right about that in regards to perhaps the piece of electronics that is waiting for a blue-link signal turns off after so many days.

If its true just remote start it twice a week if you're away for an extended time. It's probably better that way anyways so you could recharge the batt and run fluids around a bit

So, I was disappointed when I learned that remote start is only available via a paid subscription to blue-link. I guess I didn't do my homework before buying, although that wouldn't have changed my decision, but I find it quite greedy to make this option a subscription based option when it seems to me it would have been quite easy to add a button on the key fob.

Does anyone know if the dealer can add remote start option via key fob? seems like 90% of what they need would be there, of course, if it costs more than $400 or so, I might as well just pay the $99 a year for it thru bluelink and get the few extra features (although I find a keyfob would be much more convenient than pulling out my phone, putting in my cell phone unlock code, opening up genesis app, choosing remote start, entering passcode, then waiting 30 seconds to a minute for the command to actually be sent). Remote start is really the only option that I would use out of the remote package.

Having to pay for remote start is the most retarded thing I've learned in a while....

On what other vehicles is it free?

It's never free but services like Drone Mobile cost $45 a year. I have this on my wife's car and my daughters car. Or you can go for a 3 year plan and get a better rate. http://www.dronemobile.com

You may have missed my point. That system also requires a hardware unit in the car - that costs money also. There is no "free" remote start with any car. In the case of the Genesis, you pay for the service instead of the hardware.

I would beg to differ - you ARE paying for the hardware too AND the service - surely you are not suggesting they have not considered the hardware when they priced the car and decided to give it to you 'free'. So in this sense, I feel I am paying for it twice. I am paying for the hardware as it is in the package and I am paying for the service (well, hypothetically, because I won't purchase it after the trial).

I think my initial point is being missed which was I would rather have had them provide remote start via an extra button on the remote included in the ultimate package, than go the route of providing it via a paid service which is also less convenient. Don't get me wrong, I know why they did it - it's obviously an additional revenue stream.

I agree just like they endowed it with both cruise systems (smart and conventional) they should have provided a local remote start also. Considering such hi tech features already present and the cost difference of the new car I don’t think anybody would have objected. It is kinda silly to have to access your cell phone to locally remote start your car. It’s a shame so much obvious planning and a fine execution on the new car.

It's a no cost option on most new Ford and Lincolns for a number of years. Pretty disappointed to learn that you can't access it outside of the phone apps. It's a helluva lot more convenient to have it on the key fob rather than having to whip out your phone every time.

Remote keyfob start has been standard on my last 3 Chevy Silverado LTZ trucks. It may only be on the top-of-line LTZ trim. I use it from inside the house with the truck about 30 yards away.

In the trucks, the seat heaters come on if it is cold weather and the AC comes on if it is hot. The temperature setting is whatever was last set while the truck was in use.

It is really nice to find a toasty leather seat in the winter.

The CO2 sensor will kick in and bring in fresh carbon monoxide !!! :)

With my 2010 Tech, I went away as long as 43 days with the car parked in my garage, and it started normally with the keyfob in my pocket.

Are you able to turn on the heated seats via the blue link app? I notice the heated steering wheel is a toggle on or off that stays even when the car is turned off. The seats default back to off every time the car is turned off and I'm concerned that the seats won't come on with remote start.
