  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The thing I like the least about the used 2012 v6 sedan with 30k miles is the bounciness of the braking. Whenever i come to a stop i have to deal with some motion forward and backward. Even when shifting from reverse to drive, after the shift, there's a bounce. Is this normal? It sometimes feels like I"m on a still boat for a split second when i bring the car to a stop.

If not normal, do i need new brakes? the car was bought cpo just last week but cpo doesn't mean it's a new car. i think the report says it has 12mm brake life left.

sounds more like the stiffness of the shocks.

I agree, get the shocks checked, the car shouldn't do that.

Well, i went to the hyundai dealer. Went for a road test with a mechanic. Showed him what I was talking about. We got in another genesis used with 25k miles and it did more or less the same but with a slightly stiffer ride. So perhaps it's because the car is a much heavier car than i'm used to and it's a totally different car from what i have had. well i hope i get used to it. i do have really bad motion sickness and maybe that contributed to my exaggeration of the motion.

Regardless of the weight of the car, any car will 'dive' under heavy braking compressing the front suspension. As you stop the front will rise to normal height, but there should be no rocking or bouncing front to back. I certainly have never experienced this with the two Genesis models I have owned (2009 & 2012) even after 80,000 miles.

well maybe i'm misphrasing the symptoms. i've had the car for almost two weeks now...the stopping isn't so bad for me anymore. i do notice at a cold start, when shifting from park to drive or reverse to drive i feel and hear a crunch. wonder if i'm not stepping on the brake pedal enough. also experienced some "instability" in the stop when turning the steering wheel sharp while coming to a stop as in there was a shake at the end or some movement.

here's my update. i've gotten accustomed to the braking...it's not too bad. the actual issue, though, is that at a cold start, even after warming up the engine for close to a minute, when i put the car in reverse, i hear a loud noticeable click from the back. and when i go from R to D, it feels like the car wants to lunge forward. wonder if it's the transmission being too anxious. haven't tried going straight to D after a cold start. i guess i could try.

Have you tried tapping the accelerator before putting it in gear. O cold mornings....it feels like there is a choke on at times. Then the RPMS drop to regular levels.

It can surge (or feel like it) if the rpm is up a bit and put in gear.

I think this is normal as I know exactly what you're saying. When coming to a complete stop, I feel the sensation of the normal automatic-car stop (small forward bounce), but it does tend to "bounce" back and then forward. I believe it's entirely due to the weight and suspension setup.

No click sound. Pretty silent the entire time. Perhaps I'm more sensitive to it. My wife didnt notice.

I live in a hot climate but when I start the car from cold it goes into high idle (1200 RPM est) for about 15 seconds before dropping down to about 800 (normal idle). I never try moving the car or shifting into gear until it is at normal idle and don't have any strange sounds or movement coming from engine, transmission or suspension.

What I described has nothing to do with cold starting and putting into gear. I drive normally, come to a red light, stop, and I have the forward/back bounce. It's quite subtle - nothing like a 1960's Caddy.

an update on the click at cold start. i had dealer check it out when i dropped off car for first oil change. they said they noticed it too and retorqued the axle. the click has gone away! but does anyone know what would have caused the torque to go off in the first place?

Not being torqed correctly in the first place and/or lots of bumpy driving.

It's has happened a few times, it could be like what darth said, mis torqued in the first place which is mostly likely the issue, you'll be surprised working at a Hyundai dealer the weird noises and stuff we find loose. Just today an elantra which came in for first oil change had a weird vibration under acceleration. Found passenger side upper mount bolt loose. On occasion we get in sonatas with front vibration and noise with we re torque the axles. After a while working here you know all the problems but some are just so random you never know, but I don't blame hyundai, we're only human.

The click is back. Wondering if there is a bigger problem than just the torque being off
