  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi folks,

Can anyone shed some light on whether the Genesis '15 requires a break in? And if so, what is the best way to do it and for how long?

Thanks!

I believe the owners manual says 600 miles is the break-in period. During that time, try to keep the engine RPM's within the 2000-4000 RPM range. But it is a mistake to baby the engine and drive it at too low of an RPM during the break-in period. At constant highway speeds, you may be driving less than 2000 RPM (or barely above) so accelerate frequently, but never exceeding 4000 RPM.

Also they advise to not drive at a constant RPM (which would be constant speed on a flat surface) so vary the RPM/speed while you drive. Best to not use the cruise control during break-in period. The proper engine break-in process will make sure the piston rings seat properly.

For brakes, try not to slam on the brakes during the break-in period (or whenever you get brake job done). The softer you apply the brakes the better (during break-in period).

This is very helpful, thanks Mark!
