  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey. Getting my G70 3.3 sport Friday. Curious as to break-in period. I know the manual says to baby it for the first 1,000kms - curious if folks have a POV on how strict this is. I am supposed to be driving 200kms on Highway in a week. Is that too soon to drive it where speed on fairly constant?

don't use cruise control and vary the speed and you should be fine. personally I wouldn't keep it at a consistent speed until I am past the recommended break in period.

has to be a conscious effort on your part to vary the speed as you drive that 200kms

Does the manual say to baby it? Might want to take another look ;) anyways it says to keep it between 2 and 4K rpms. Use sport mode and be light on the throttle and it will take 0 conscious effort beyond learning the pedal sensitivity. Sport mode keeps rpms exactly where you want for by the manual breakin

In addition to what Mr. I said, stop for a coffee. Getting off the highway even for a couple of miles will break it up a bit and give you some variance. Otherwise, drive like your grandmother is in the car. Unless your grandmother is Danica Patrick

Don't...
  1. floor it
  2. baby it
  3. use high rpms
  4. use cruise control
  5. take short trips
Do...
  1. Drive in moderation - IE: Normal driving
  2. Vary the engine load up to 50% or 1/2 throttle
  3. Keep rpms below 4000
  4. Ensure your trips completely warm up the engine

Watch this video from Engineering Explained if you want the details.

Agree with others here. I would shift manually at times to break up the RPMs. Was somewhat gentle on driving the first 500 miles and stayed away from launch control for a bit.

Drive it like you stole it baby.
