  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All!

Thanks for taking time to read this post as I am very concerned about my new car. Nothing seems wrong at all so maybe I am just being a nervous-nancy.

But...

I live in SC and needed to drive to VA to get the car as a family member was able to get a killer deal on brand new 14 GC 3.8 R-Spec..

Breaking in the engine was def something I wanted be aware of but also sometimes had it in the back of my mind. By no means have I put the car through its paces or dumped the clutch on it at all. In all honesty I wanted to show the car off to a few friends of mine back in my hometown in VA and showed them what the car could do.. Was that too soon? I didnt light up the tires or do donuts or anything of that nature.. Just showed them what this beast can do. I am afraid I f**ked up the engine break in process. Along with that I needed to get back to SC as I had work and had a 7.5 hour trip put into the car. I read that it says "never keep your car at the same rpms for too long" But when driving on the highway with a bunch of cars and going with traffic I cant exactly be switching gears like crazy and moving the rpms back and forth. I just cruised along. Did that hurt the engine?

I am going to get the 1,000 mile oil change here in a couple of days so that I get what ever can possibly be bad out of the car..

What are y'all's toughts?? Did I jeopardize the engine?

There is no way to answer that. The only way that will manifest is if you start having engine related problems down the road.

I worked at Honda of America in Marysville Ohio. After the cars were started they idled for about 5 minutes and then to the Dyno and full throttle. Then out to the test track and the cars were ran pedal to the metal. Every single car was ran this way. I do not think you should worry.

It's on your shoulders, 0P. Hopefully you won't have any problems. You already know that you violated the recommendations from the user manual. I had to drive my new car home several hundred miles. It was all interstate and I drove at varying speeds for five minute intervals. Yes, I even stayed in the right lane at times.

When breaking in a new vehicle, you should also go lightly on the brakes for several hundred miles until the rotors and pads become friendly with each other. I paid the price on that some years ago when I picked up a new BMW in Germany and drove it like a bat out of hell to Holland. When I got to Holland the steering wheel was wobbling and new rotors needed.
