  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is there an acknowledged way of building oil pressure prior to starting the car immediately after an oil change? Unlike the old days I can't just undo a distributor high tension lead. I have the 4.6 V8 (2011). Thanks!

Um....why?
Unless you're leaving your engine dry for months/years just refill, start and go about your day.

When you drain the oil there is still some residue on the internal parts. When you start the engine it takes seconds to get up to pressure. Millions of cars around the world do that at every change. May have made a difference in 1950, not today.

You can pre-fill the oil filter canister prior to reattaching it to the engine. This saves a few seconds...

Thanks. But that canister screws on pretty much horizontally and I'm sure I'd make a big mess should I try that.

Well in that case, no it won't help so much then

You are better off just to start the engine. You could pull out the fuel pump relay. However like EdP said you still have residual oil on the internal parts . Start it and go. The only time I would do that is if the car has sat for a long period of time 6 months or longer? To each is own.

Thanks to all who responded. I have always just started it up after refilling. This past time I got a couple of seconds of knocking that I have not heard in the past. It was unsettling but went away after about 2 seconds and was quiet after that. I'll just relax going forward.
