  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a white 2012 Genesis that has only 40,000 miles and is garaged most of the day everyday. The plastics all the way around are turning brown or becoming oxidized. The car is out of warranty so the dealership won't take any action. Its a very beautiful car but this is a major disappointment and I'm shocked Hyundai does not want to take care of this. Has anyone else experienced this and figured out how to get Hyundai to resolve this quality issue? Attached is a picture of my rear bumper.

I cannot honestly see what you are talking about from that photo. However, from your description, and knowing how fragile the chrome finish on those parts is, I would guess that it was cleaned a too vigorously and that caused the problem. It is a little disconcerting that the chrome finish on those plastic trim parts is so fragile, and scratches quite easily, but not sure if that is a manufacturing defect. If the scratches are too deep, it could lead to oxidation.

I would recommend always using a microfiber cloth to clean those trim parts. Also, it is best if a product like Maguire's Ultimate Quik Detailer or Eagle Nanowax Spray is used to help fill in any scratches (before it goes bad).

Thanks Mark. Unfortunately, it not the chrome that I'm having problems with. Basically, the plastic trim on the bumpers and the plastic trim on the sides of my care are all oxidized or discolored. The paint on the metal of the vehicle is holding up fine but on the plastic parts, its horrific.

Thanks again.
