I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 6-speed Track and I am extremely aggravated on this issue. I went in to have a standard radiator flush and fill service from a reputable/local shop. Approximately 1 day and ½ later I began noticing an odor possibly a burning smell coming from my driver’s side air vent both with the A/C on or just the fan. I’ve taken my car back to the shop twice and both times though they could smell the odor, they could not locate the cause. My car has been up on a lift and thoroughly inspected but nothing has been located (I was also invited to look with the mechanic and also saw no leaks, etc., on the underside). The engine compartment was also checked and nothing could be found as well.
With exception to the smell coming from the driver’s side area, my car’s performance isn’t lacking. I am not getting any of the symptoms that would indicate a failing heater core e.g., condensation on the windshield, damp floor mats, etc. I am at a loss on what this could be and extremely frustrated that the mechanic and so far been unable to figure it out. It’s been about 5-days since the service and I am still smelling it. There is not issue with the engine temperature (gauges are normal) nor has there been a reduction in the level of antifreeze, Forgot to mention that my car has about 91k on it. I am reaching out to the community here in hopes of finding out something I can take back to either this mechanic or another to get this issue resolved. I don’t know whether this issue is simply a coincidence or something the mechanic inadvertently did during my service. I just know that my car was perfect prior to the service and hasn’t been (the odor) ever since.
I welcome any theories.
