  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been wanting a Genesis for the longest time and I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on buying one. I love the '15 - '16 style, and I'm eyeing a 5.0 Ultimate this weekend. But I've never gotten a chance to take a lot of time in one, so I'm curious about what I should test out I wouldn't normally think of.

Been lurking here a while so I'm aware of things like pano roof rattle, blinkers going out, outdated navi, and flutter at certain speeds. And I'm also not talking about things like tire wear, engine sounds, non working windows, etc. But is there anything I should be sure to look out for and test that's sort of specific to the 5.0, or the Ultimate package? Especially electronically since I'm moving up from a 2001 Avalon lol.

Sunroof, definitely the sunroof.

So far those problems mentioned are the only known issues with the 2015 and 2016 models. Hopefully, no other issue is discovered as the Genesis ages.

Note: The active shocks cost $500 each from Hyundai and I have not found an aftermarket solution, so replacing the shocks will be expensive.

The CDC suspension "might" be something to think about. Some comments in post#5 of this thread.
CDC continuous damping control 5.0 ultimate 2016?

Thanks for the heads up guys, I had no idea about that! The car I'm looking at is 60k miles, so no more warrenty covering the CDC =(

I'm also considering some ARK springs eventually, any idea how that interacts with the CDC? From other posts I haven't really read anything problematic except for tire rubbing.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
There has been some discussion as to whether or not the 5.0 was offered in 2016. I think it was. Pretty sure there is one in my neighborhood, and it is indicated in the 2016 brochure. The 2016 did not have the CDC. You'd also get the LED DRLs. You would however lose all the rear seat window shades.

I also considered lowering my Genesis with ARK springs, but my Genesis sits very low to the ground as is so I decided not to go lower. Plus, the shorter springs may not mesh well with the CDC system and throw off the overall handling. I like how my Genesis handles as is with the CDC system and do not want to change it.

I did look at a 2015 Ultimate 5.0 recently, but decided against it because of ticking coming from the headers and a slight vibration at idle. It's not like it was busted or anything, and they were pretty imperceptible unless you were looking for them, but with no more warranty it wasn't worth it.

The ticking is the normal sound the high pressure injectors make most likely. The 5.0 direct injected engine ticks like a diesel engine. The ticking sound is very noticeable in a drive-thru when the sound bounces off the restaurant walls.

The vibration is mostly likely from regular gas. My 2015 used to have a rough idle until I changed the tank of regular gas the dealer provided when I first bought the car for premium gas. The salesperson actually used the point that the 5.0 engine can use regular gas as an selling point. The engine did not shake, but the steering wheel did have a slight vibration that was very noticeable while it idled. After using a few tanks of premium gas the engine idled so smooth that you can not tell the engine is running, hence one of the reason why I only use premium fuel in my 5.0.

Huh, I'm glad you mentioned the octane issue, it supports a lot of anecdotal evidence I've seen online as a likely culprit for both the rough idle and the ticking. Without really getting into the engine it's hard to tell exactly where the ticking was coming from on a test drive, but from past experience with lifters knocking it sounded a little too familiar lol. Enough to let me feel picky at least.
